Yanks bring back Kuroda Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Yankees on Tuesday inked pitcher Hiroki Kuroda to a one-year contract. No terms were disclosed, but the New York Daily News reported the deal is worth $15 million. "I am very happy and excited to re-sign with the Yankees. I am very grateful for all of the interest and all of the offers that I received from the various teams that courted me," Kuroda said in a statement accompanying the news. "It was a tough decision for me to make, but at the end of the day, I wanted to try and win a championship with the teammates I went to battle with last season." Kuroda finished his first season in New York with a 16-11 record, 3.32 earned run average and 167 strikeouts against 51 walks in 219 2/3 innings over 33 starts for the AL East champions. After a prosperous career in Japan, the right-hander came to the Dodgers in 2008 and pitched to a 41-46 mark with a 3.45 ERA in 115 games. The 37-year-old native of Osaka has evened his lifetime record at 57-57, to go with a 3.42 ERA in 148 games -- all but one starts, in a five-year North American career. 11/20 19:50:13 ET Powered by The Sports Network. |
