Final Score: Georgia Tech 56, Syracuse 0
Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets rushed for 394 yards on the afternoon as they dismantled the Syracuse Orange, 56-0, in Atlantic Coast Conference action at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
Zach Laskey had 75 yards on 13 carries and scored three touchdowns for Georgia Tech (4-3, 3-2 ACC), which snapped a three-game losing streak. Vad Lee ran for 72 yards and two scores while completing all three of his pass attempts for 88 yards and a touchdown. Justin Thomas led the team with 95 yards on just 10 attempts.
For Syracuse (3-4, 1-2), Terrel Hunt started under center and was ineffective, going just 7-of-14 for 68 yards and an interception. He was spelled for Drew Allen, who completed 6-of-15 passes for 65 yards and a pick.
The Yellow Jackets set the tone early in the first quarter after they blocked a punt on Syracuse's second possession. They took over on the Orange 24-yard line, and four plays later Synjyn Days rushed for a four-yard touchdown.
Laskey added a six-yard rushing score later in the first quarter, capping off a nine-play, 71-yard drive.
Georgia Tech's advantage grew in the second quarter following a pair of Lee rushing touchdowns, one from three yards out and the other a one-yard plunge. The latter came with under a minute to play in the first half after the Yellow Jackets forced a fumble deep in Syracuse territory.
The rout continued after halftime. Lee attempted his first pass of the game on the opening drive of the third quarter, which resulted in a 46-yard touchdown to Darren Walker. Laskey added a three-yard rushing touchdown a few minutes later, then Thomas ripped off a 50-yard scoring scamper late in the third.
Laskey added another touchdown in the fourth quarter, this time from one yard out.
Syracuse had just 208 yards of offense and possessed the ball for less than 23 minutes.
It was Georgia Tech's largest-ever margin of victory in an ACC game, surpassing its 49-10 triumph over Duke on Nov. 14, 2009.
