(SportsNetwork.com) - Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby is one of 25 current National Hockey League stars on Team Canada's roster for the Sochi Olympics.
Hockey Canada, along with executive director Steve Yzerman, made the announcement on Tuesday.
"I would like to congratulate the 25 players nominated today to Canada's Olympic Team," said Yzerman. "With the depth of talent in Canada, these players should be very proud of their nomination today and excited about the opportunity that we all have to represent our country in Sochi in February."
The roster includes three goaltenders, eight defensemen and 14 forwards.
The netminders are Robert Luongo (Vancouver), Carey Price (Montreal) and Mike Smith (Phoenix).
The defense is made up of Jay Bouwmeester (St. Louis), Drew Doughty (Los Angeles), Dan Hamhuis (Vancouver), Duncan Keith (Chicago), Alex Pietrangelo (St. Louis), PK Subban (Montreal), Marc-Edouard Vlasic (San Jose) and Shea Weber (Nashville).
Joining Crosby on the front line are Jamie Benn (Dallas), Patrice Bergeron (Boston), Jeff Carter (Los Angeles), Matt Duchene (Colorado), Ryan Getzlaf (Anaheim), Chris Kunitz (Pittsburgh), Patrick Marleau (San Jose), Rick Nash (NY Rangers), Corey Perry (Anaheim), Patrick Sharp (Chicago), Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay), John Tavares (NY Islanders) and Jonathan Toews (Chicago).
