Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is batting .174 (4-for-23) in his career against Phillies pitcher Kyle Kendrick.
Insight: LaRoche reached a high-water mark for the season with a .254 average on June 12, but he has gone 2-for-20 (.100) with six K since then. Get him on the bench Wednesday with Kendrick starting.

6/2/2013 10:31:00 AM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is hitting .344 with seven homers, 19 RBI and 16 walks over his last 28 games, but he has been held in check by Braves starter Paul Maholm.
Insight: LaRoche only batted .136 in April. While he has turned his season around, he's hitting .213 against lefties this season and is 3-for-15 against Maholm. He might not even be in the lineup Sunday.

5/22/2013 10:45:00 AM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is a career .154 hitter (2-for-13) versus Giants right-hander Madison Bumgarner.
Insight: Since getting hitting advice from former teammate and friend Chipper Jones, LaRoche is batting .306 over a 21-game span, well above his season average of .219. This matchup should be avoided, however, despite his improved hitting.

Hot5/18/2013 11:03:00 AM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is hitting .339 with four homers and 11 RBI since April 29.
Insight: April 29 was the day LaRoche and former teammate and friend Chipper Jones sat down to talk about his hitting. Perhaps the future Hall of Fame third baseman has found his next job - hitting coach.

5/16/2013 10:11:00 AM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is hitting .390 with a homer, five RBI and seven walks during his 12-game hitting streak.
Insight: LaRoche's bat has awakened from its usual April slumber, though he still has a ways to go. He has struck out eight times in his last 16 at-bats and just snapped a 22-game homerless streak Wednesday night.

5/13/2013 9:55:00 AM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is 3-for-18 (.167) against Dodgers right-hander Josh Beckett.
Insight: LaRoche's bat is waking up from its usual April slumber (last year not withstanding). His career first-half numbers are .246 batting average, .760 OPS vs. second half of .293 BA and .886 OPS.

5/9/2013 9:51:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is 9-for-17 with two doubles, two RBI and a 5/6 K/BB over his last six games.
Insight: LaRoche's bat is slowly waking up from its April slumber. However, his homerless streak reached 17 games Thursday.

5/4/2013 8:41:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche went 1-for-1 with three walks and a sac fly Saturday against the Pirates.
Insight: LaRoche's bat is slowly waking up from its April slumber. The first baseman has gone 4-for-7 with five walks over his last three games.

4/25/2013 9:50:00 AM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche had a day off Wednesday and he probably wishes he had another one Thursday with Bronson Arroyo on the hill for the Reds. LaRoche is 5-for-29 (.172) against Arroyo in his career.
Insight: LaRoche is experiencing his usual April slump, hitting .169 with 23 strikeouts. Hopefully it won't carry into May.

4/24/2013 11:03:00 AM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against St. Louis.
Insight: LaRoche (.172, 3 HRs, 8 RBI) has struggled in April throughout his career save 2012, so this start isn't a big surprise. Tyler Moore (.158) is expected to make the start at first base.

4/20/2013 8:26:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche went deep with two men on Saturday against the Mets.
Insight: LaRoche (.191, 3 HRs, 8 RBIs) has struggled in April throughout his career save 2012, and he owns a .246 average in May and a .252 average in June, so it could be a frustrating few months for fantasy owners. However, he has a .293 average and .886 OPS in 520 games after the All-Star break in his career.

4/15/2013 4:22:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is not in the lineup for Monday's game.
Insight: No injury, LaRoche is just getting a day off. Too bad as he's 3-for-9 with a homer and a 1.111 OPS against Miami starter Wade LeBlanc. LaRoche is hitless in his last two games and his average is down to .147.

4/9/2013 11:03:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche returned from back tightness and hit a pair of homers.
Insight: LaRoche was hitless through the first four games and missed the last two with the back injury, so the homers were his first two hits of the season.

4/9/2013 11:25:00 AM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche (tightness in back) is probable for Tuesday's game against the Chicago White Sox.
Insight: LaRoche was hitless through the first four games and missed the last two with the back injury, but he's always hit Jake Peavy well, owning a .364 career batting average with a pair of homers and five RBI in 11 at-bats.

Cold4/7/2013 11:05:00 AM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche (back) will miss Sunday's game.
Insight: LaRoche is hitless through the first four games and has missed the last two. He wouldn't have been a good play anyway considering his career-long struggles in April and 2-for-13 (6 Ks) history against Reds starter Johnny Cueto.

Cold4/6/2013 10:59:00 AM
Description: Nationals' first baseman Adam LaRoche is not in Saturday's lineup after leaving Friday night's game with tightness in his back, according to beat writer Mark Zuckerman.
Insight: LaRoche is hitless through the first four games. Add in a bad back and it's a concern for those fantasy owners who were hoping for a repeat of last year's big stats - .271, 33 HR, 100 RBI.

Cold4/4/2013 8:27:00 PM
Description: Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is 0-for-10 over his first three games this season.
Insight: LaRoche hit .329 with a .964 OPS and four homers last April but he is a notorious early-season slumper. He has a career average of .220 in April and .246 in May but hits .293 with an .886 OPS after the All-Star break.

1/8/2013 4:54:00 PM
Description: The Nationals have officially re-signed first baseman Adam LaRoche to a two-year contract worth $24 million with a $2 million buyout on 2015 option. SOURCE: Buster Olney, ESPN
Insight: LaRoche put together one of the best seasons of his career in 2012 -- .271, 33 homers, 100 RBIs, .853 OPS -- and he'll be staying in Washington for at least another two seasons. The re-signing will allow the Nationals to go ahead with plans to trade Michael Morse.

12/27/2012 11:34:00 AM
Description: First baseman Adam LaRoche is back on Boston's radar according to Jen Royle from SB Nation.
Insight: It would appear the Red Sox are moving on from Mike Napoli who signed for three years and $39 million earlier this offseason but couldn't pass his physical. The only reason LaRoche is still available is because the Nationals have been unwilling to give him more than a two-year deal. The Red Sox have plenty of cash at their disposal and a chip on their shoulder after one of the franchise's worst seasons ever so it wouldn't be surprising to see them make a strong push for LaRoche.

12/13/2012 4:09:00 PM
Description: The Rangers have stepped up their efforts to sign Adam LaRoche and could be willing to offer the first baseman a three-year contract according to CSN Washington's Mark Zuckerman.
Insight: Now that they've missed out on both Zack Greinke and Josh Hamilton, the Rangers need to make a move fast if they want to stay competitive with Oakland and Anaheim in the AL West. LaRoche would fill a hole at first base while the team could also explore a trade for Arizona's Justin Upton to take Hamilton's place in the outfield.
