Description: Houston has released first baseman Brett Wallace. SOURCE: Jose de Jesus Ortiz, Houston Chronicle
Insight: This won't affect many fantasy teams as Wallace was slated to be Chris Carter's backup at first base. Wallace is only hitting .242 in 971 major league at bats.

Description: The Astros have designated former first-round pick Brett Wallace for assignment.
Insight: With Wallace out of the picture, it looks like Chris Carter (.223, 29 HR, 82 RBI) will get most of the playing time at first base this season. Wallace hit .221 with 13 HR and 36 RBI in 79 appearances for Houston in 2013.

Description: Houston first baseman Brett Wallace has hit .264 with six doubles, one triple, six homers and 18 RBI in 26 games since the team recalled him from the minors.
Insight: Wallace is a former first-round pick who is already on his fourth organization and is a career .245 hitter with 22 HR in 824 at-bats. We're skeptical of his ability to continue what he's doing recently -- his K/BB this year is 42/6.

Description: Houston first baseman Brett Wallace hammered four hits Wednesday in a loss to St. Louis.
Insight: Not a bad effort for a guy who has spent most of the season in Triple-A. Obviously, Wallace (.225, 3 HR, 11 RBI) still has a long way to go in his quest for fantasy relevance. Wednesday was definitely a step in the right direction, though.

Description: Astros first baseman Brett Wallace corked his seventh home run of the season Monday in a win over the Pirates.
Insight: Wallace had been one for his last 15 heading into today's action. Despite his impressive performance on Monday, we wouldn't recommend owning Wallace or anybody else on this miserable Houston squad in fantasy, unless, of course, your name happens to be Jose Altuve.

Description: Houston first baseman Brett Wallace has to be happy to see Jake Westbrook on the schedule Thursday. Wallace is 6-for-11 (.545) with four RBIs against the Cardinals right-hander.
Insight: Wallace is only a deep NL-only league option at this point but those who own him should start him Thursday.

6/10/2012 8:06:00 PM
Description: Houston first baseman Brett Wallace went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the White Sox.
Insight: Wallace has picked up at least one hit in each of his seven games since he was promoted to the big leagues, including three doubles and two homers. The former first-round draft pick was a surprise last season when he hit .318 in the first 69 games, but he hit just .182 in July and was demoted until September, when he hit an even worse .105 in 14 games. Still, he's worth a flier in NL-only leagues based on his early success last year.
