NOTES
Last year, Zach Johnson won the Texas Open for the second time in seven months when he rolled in a 10-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to defeat James Driscoll. Johnson`s winning week included a course record-tying 60 on a rainy Saturday, when he was one of the lucky players to finish before the third round was suspended due to darkness. Johnson also won the tournament in October 2008 when it was part of the PGA Tour`s Fall Series. He became just the third player to win the Texas Open in back-to-back years since the tournament began in 1922. Bill Mehlhorn won in 1928-29, Arnold Palmer captured three straight from 1960-62 and Leonard won his first two Texas Open titles in 2000-01.This year, Ernie Els will make his first career start at the Texas Open. Els, who leads the FedEx Cup standings, is the only player ranked in the top 10 on that list who will be in the field at the TPC San Antonio. No. 17 J.B. Holmes is the only other player in the top 20 who will play. Golf Channel will have coverage of the first two rounds from 3-6 p.m. (et), with CBS taking over on the weekend during the same time slot. Next week is the Byron Nelson Championship, where Rory Sabbatini won last year. The tour`s three-event Texas swing wraps up at Colonial the following week. Steve Stricker won that tournament in a three-way playoff last year.
