DeKalb, IL (Sports Network) - Behind 440 yards of total offense from
quarterback Jordan Lynch, the Northern Illinois Huskies breezed by the Buffalo
Bulls, 45-3, in Mid-American Conference action at Huskie Stadium
Jordan Lynch passed for 232 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 129
yards and two more scores for NIU (6-1, 3-0 MAC), which has won five in a row
and has become bowl eligible for the fifth straight year. Martel Moore was busy
in the receiving game, hauling in eight catches for 133 yards and a score.
For Buffalo (1-5, 0-3), Alex Zordich completed 18-of-29 passes for 177 yards
and two interceptions before being pulled for Joe Licata, who wasn't much
better (9-of-20, 86 yards). Devon Hughes tallied 105 yards receiving on a game-
high nine catches. The Bulls are now losers of four in a row.
NIU opened the game with a 13-play, 75-yard drive, culminating in a 12-yard
rushing touchdown from Da'Ron Brown to get up to an early 7-0 lead.
Buffalo scored its only points of the game later in the first quarter on a
Patrick Clarke 28-yard field goal.
The Huskies started the second quarter with the ball and drove down the field
in 10 plays, capping it off with a one-yard touchdown run from Akeem Daniels.
Luke Eakes ripped off a 32-yard run on 4th-and-7 from NIU's 40-yard line to
keep the drive alive.
NIU added to its advantage less than four minutes later on a four-yard
touchdown run from Lynch to give it a 21-3 lead. The Huskies continued to pile
on with just a over minute remaining in the half with another Lynch rushing
score.
It was more of the same for the Huskies after the intermission. On the first
drive of the second half, Lynch hooked up with Moore for a 43-yard touchdown
pass to give NIU a commanding 35-3 advantage. Lynch added another passing score
later in the third quarter, this time a 28-yard strike to Tommylee Lewis.
Mathew Sims added a 42-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to conclude the
scoring.
NIU has won 11 games in a row over conference opponents and 19 straight at
Huskie Stadium.
