NCAA Game Summary - Temple at Bowling Green

Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - A 24-yard touchdown reception by Shaun Joplin midway through the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as the Bowling Green Falcons defeated the Temple Owls, 13-10, in Mid-American Conference action at Doyt Perry Stadium.

Joplin finished the afternoon with just two catches for 37 yards for the Falcons (4-4, 2-2 MAC) as they snapped a three-game slide. Quarterback Matt Schilz converted 20-of-34 passes for 204 yards and a score, shaking off three sacks along the way. Anthon Samuel picked up 112 yards on 18 carries to lead the ground attack.

The Owls (5-3, 3-2) were led by Matt Brown who recorded a game-high 119 yards on 22 carries, followed by Bernard Pierce who contributed another 107 yards and a score on 17 attempts. Chester Stewart connected on just 7-of-13 passes for 66 yards and was sacked four times on the day.

The only points of a quiet first half came courtesy of BGSU kicker Stephen Stein who knocked through a 33-yard field goal with 3:19 remaining in the opening quarter.

Fast-forward to the third frame when Temple's Brandon McManus locked the score at 3-3 thanks to a 27-yard field goal.

Early in the fourth quarter the Falcons capped a 13-play, 67-yard drive with a 29-yard field goal by Stein to regain the advantage.

On the ensuing possession Temple marched 71 yards in just five plays and advanced to a 10-6 lead when Pierce hit the end zone on a two-yard run.

Minutes later Schilz needed just 1:22 to get the Falcons into the end zone for the first and only time on the day when he found Joplin with the scoring connection at the 7:41 mark of the period.

Temple entered the week ranked 110th in the nation in passing with just 142.9 ypg. The Owls generated 218 yards on the ground which also fell short of the team's season average of 257.0 ypg.
