Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Landry Jones threw for 425 yards and five
touchdowns, as No. 2 Oklahoma pummeled Ball State, 62-6.
The Sooners (4-0) excelled in virtually every phase of the game to stretch
their nation's-best home win streak to 39.
Dominique Whaley carried the ball 15 times for 109 yards and two touchdowns,
while Jaz Reynolds caught five passes for 141 yards and a score.
Ryan Broyles caught four passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns, moving into
first place in Big 12 history with 304 career receptions.
Tony Jefferson sparked the Oklahoma defense, recording three interceptions to
tie a school record.
In all, the Sooners compiled 655 yards of total offense, compared to 214 for
Keith Wenning threw for 84 yards on 12-of-31 passing, while Jahwan Edwards had
53 rushing yards on 16 carries for the Cardinals (3-2).
"Obviously I am disappointed with the results and disappointed with the score
but we will go back and look at the film," said Cardinals coach Pete Lembo. "I
am sure there will be some positive things we can take from the film."
Ball State began the game with a successful on-side kick, but failed to
capitalize, going three-and-out.
Jones' six-yard touchdown pass to James Hanna and Michael Hunnicutt's 44-yard
field goal countered kicks of 34 and 31 yards by Steven Schott, giving the
Sooners a 10-6 lead early in the second quarter.
Whaley stretched the advantage with a 25-yard touchdown run before Jefferson
intercepted Wenning on three consecutive Ball State possessions.
Oklahoma converted all three picks into scores, as Jones sandwiched a pair of
touchdowns passes around Whaley's one-yard scoring run for a 38-6 lead at the
"I didn't put together that it was three straight possessions, we were just
kind of working through the game," said Sooners coach Bob Stoops. "That's
pretty amazing. Tony is a great player. I don't need to tell you that."
The third quarter sported a similar tone. Ball State was forced into a three-
and-out on its first possession and Jones connected with Broyles for a 64-yard
score on the Sooners ensuing drive.
Reynolds made it a 52-6 game with a 56-yard touchdown catch before Travis
Lewis stripped Wenning on the Cardinals next drive. Tom Wort recovered the
loose ball and ran 22 yards for a touchdown and a 59-6 lead.
Hunnicutt tacked on a 39-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to cap
Broyles passed Texas Tech's Taurean Henderson (303) for most career receptions
in the Big 12. He needs just 12 catches to tie Purdue's Taylor Stubblefield
for the career NCAA record...The Cardinals have dropped 12 straight to top-25
opponents. They faced a No. 2 team for the second time in school history, with
the other matchup coming in the form of a 34-26 loss at Michigan in
2006...This was the first all-time meeting between the programs on the
