NCAA Game Summary - Iowa State at Texas Tech

(Saturday, October 29th)

Final Score: Iowa State 41, (19) Texas Tech 7

Lubbock, TX (Sports Network) - James White scored one of four rushing touchdowns for Iowa State as the Cyclones routed 19th-ranked Texas Tech, 41-7, in Big 12 action.

White finished with 138 yards on 31 carries while Duran Hollis, Jared Barnett and Jeff Woody all had scores on the ground for the Cyclones (4-4, 1-4 Big 12), who put the brakes on a four-game slide.

"I'm really, really happy for our kids and our coaching staff, four straight losses is hard, four straight losses against good football teams," said Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads. "Obviously, you can see those teams and see how they're playing and what they've done so far, this is a tough league. Full commitment by our coaching staff and their preparation, full commitment by our kids and their preparation and I'm very happy for our football team."

Iowa State racked up 368 yards on the ground and controlled the ball for over 40 minutes while Barnett also threw a score and went 14-for-26 with 144 yards for Iowa State.

Seth Doege went 16-for-32 with 171 yards and had a touchdown on the ground, but was also picked off twice for the Red Raiders (5-3, 2-3), who have lost three of their last four.

Give all the credit to Iowa State," said Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville. "They came in ready to play and they took advantage of us not really focused, coaching or playing the first or second half. I take total blame for that. I saw a lot of it coming during the week."

Iowa State grabbed a lead it never relinqushed on its first possession of the game as an eight-play, 67-yard drive was capped on a 13-yard run into the end zone by Barnett just over four minutes in.

Texas Tech punted on its next possesion, but the Cyclones were unable to take advantage as Grant Mahoney missed a 50-yard field goal.

After yet another punt from the Red Raiders, Iowa State got a 38-yard reception from Josh Lenz to set up a 1st-and-goal at the three and Woody took it in from there for a 14-0 advantage.

Ter'Ran Benton picked off Doege on Texas Tech's first play and, three plays later, Barnett found Darius Darks on a two-yard score to give Iowa State a 21-0 lead.

The Raiders finally got on the board in the second quarter when Doege's eight- yard run capped a six-play, 58-yard drive with 8 1/2 minutes left to make it a 21-7 game.

Iowa State, though, countered with a 42-yard field goal from Zach Guyer to take a 24-7 lead.

The Cyclones contiuned to roll in the third as the team started the half with the ball and on the third play after the kickoff, Hollis took a handoff 71 yards to paydirt for a 31-7 lead.

White's one-yard touchdown run four minutes into the fourth quarter capped a 16-play, 82-yard drive that lasted close to nine minutes and made it a 38-7 contest.

Guyer's 23-yard field goal with under five minutes to play accounted for the final score.
