Albuquerque, NM (Sports Network) - Ryan Lindley threw for 249 yards and two
touchdowns to lead the San Diego State Aztecs to a 30-20 victory over the New
Mexico Lobos in Mountain West Conference action.
Both of Lindley's touchdown passes went to DeMarco Sampson, who finished with
seven catches for 127 yards for San Diego State (5-2, 2-1 MWC).
B.R. Holbrook completed only 11-of-27 passes for 124 yards and one touchdown
in defeat for New Mexico (0-7, 0-3).
The Lobos grabbed a 3-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest when James
Aho booted a 46-yard field goal.
Midway through the first quarter, the Aztecs took a 7-3 advantage on the
strength of an 11-yard touchdown run by Ronnie Hillman. That lead was
stretched to 10-3 early in the second quarter by a 36-yard field goal by Abel
New Mexico cut its deficit to 10-6 with a 25-yard Aho field goal, but San
Diego State scored a touchdown on the final play of the first half to grab a
17-6 lead at intermission. Lindley tossed a 40-yard strike to Sampson to give
the Aztecs that 11-point cushion.
The Aztec advantage was pushed to 20-6 with a 30-yard Perez field goal early
in the third quarter.
New Mexico reached the endzone midway through that third frame to cut the
deficit to 20-13, as Holbrook hooked up with Lucas Reed for a 25-yard pitch
San Diego State answered back immediately, as Lindley threw a 32-yard
touchdown strike to Sampson, making the score 27-13.
The only points of the fourth quarter for the Aztecs came on a 31-yard Perez
field goal. New Mexico State managed a late touchdown, bringing the score to
its final of 30-20.
