NCAA Game Summary - New Mexico at Air Force

USAFA, CO (Sports Network) - The Air Force Falcons totaled 373 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground, en route to a 48-23 victory over the New Mexico Lobos in a Mountain West Conference showdown at Falcon Stadium.

Nathan Walker, who scored one of the six rushing touchdowns, led Air Force (7-4, 4-3 MWC) with 95 yards on 23 carries. Asher Clark also tallied 95 rushing yards and found the end zone twice. Quarterback Tim Jefferson added 78 rushing yards and one TD on 6.0 yards per attempt.

Stump Godfrey only threw for 99 yards and one touchdown for New Mexico (1-9, 1-5), but also added 41 rushing yards and found the end zone once on the ground. Kasey Carrier led the Lobos with 79 rushing yards in the loss.

The Lobos jumped out to an early 7-0 lead when James Wright scored on a two- yard run.

Air Force evened the score at seven apiece late in the opening quarter thanks to Clark's seven-yard touchdown run.

The Falcons took the lead early in the second stanza when Jefferson rumbled into the end zone on an eight-yard run.

In the final seconds of the opening half, Air Force went ahead 21-7 when Connor Dietz hit Zach Kauth with a 28-yard scoring strike.

New Mexico scored on its first drive of the second half when James Aho connected on a 24-yard field goal.

However, the Falcons responded with two more touchdowns to push their lead to 35-10. The first score was a one-yard touchdown run by Walker, and that was followed by a 14-yard touchdown scamper by Dietz.

The Lobos cut their deficit to 18 points early in the final quarter when Godfrey found Ty Kirk for a 14-yard scoring strike.

Air Force responded on its next drive, as Clark scored on a two-yard run.

New Mexico continued to fight however, as Godfrey scored on a six-yard run. However, the two-point conversion failed, leaving the Lobos on the wrong end of a 41-23 score.

Air Force finished off New Mexico when Ryan Southworth scampered into the end zone from eight yards out in the final minutes of regulation.
