NCAA Game Summary - Syracuse at Akron

Akron, OH (Sports Network) - Ryan Nassib threw for 229 yards and two
touchdowns to lead the Syracuse Orange to a 29-3 victory over the Akron Zips
in the season-opener for both teams at InfoCision Stadium.
Nassib, who also tossed an interception for Syracuse (1-0), completed 17-of-27
passes and also rushed for 58 yards on nine carries. Delone Carter led the
rushing attack for the Orange with 91 yards and one touchdown on 28 totes.
Patrick Nicely had a rough opener for Akron (0-1), as the quarterback
completed just 12-of-35 passes for 111 yards. Jeremy LaFrance was the main
target in the contest, as the receiver hauled in seven passes for 75 yards.
The Orange wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Nassib capped off
an 11-play, 69-yard drive with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Weaver.
The two teams exchanged field goals in the second stanza, as Ross Krautman
connected on a 47-yard kick for Syracuse early in the frame, while Igor
Ivelijic nailed a 40-yard field goal with just over a minute remaining in the
opening half.
Syracuse responded quickly after the Akron field goal, as Nassib hit Van Chew
with a 26-yard scoring strike in the final seconds of the second stanza. The
touchdown gave Syracuse a 17-3 lead at the break.
Late in the third quarter the Zips lined up for a field goal, but Ivelijic's
attempt was blocked and returned 57 yards for a touchdown by Mike Holmes.
Syracuse's two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the Orange with a 23-3
advantage.
With just under eight minutes remaining in the contest Carter plunged into the
end zone from one yard out, pushing the Orange lead to 29-3. The extra point
was unsuccessful, but it did not matter, as Syracuse held on for the 26-point
victory.
Syracuse finished with 431 total yards, while the Zips only posted 166 yards
of total offense.
