Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - B.J. Daniels threw a pair of touchdown
passes and ran for two more scores, as the South Florida Bulls held off the
Cincinnati Bearcats, 38-30, in Big East action from Nippert Stadium.
Daniels completed 13-of-16 passes for 286 yards for the Bulls (4-3, 1-2 Big
East), who snapped a two-game skid.
Faron Hornes caught two passes for 75 yards and a touchdown while Evan Landi
hauled in a pair of passes for 38 yards and a score for South Florida, which
also got a rushing TD from Demetris Murray.
Zach Collaros connected on 30-of-53 passes for 463 yards, three touchdowns,
and an interception for the Bearcats (3-4, 1-1), who had won 13 consecutive
Big East games dating back to 2008. A leg injury forced Collaros to miss the
final series of the game.
Marcus Barnett caught nine passes for 174 yards and a touchdown while Armon
Binns hauled in 12 passes for 158 yards and two scores for Cincinnati, which
had won the past four meetings with USF.
Trailing by 15, 38-23, Collaros led the Bearcats on an 11-play, 80-yard drive.
Faced with a 4th-and-8 from the USF 26, Collaros rushed for 11 yards. He
fumbled the ball on the play, but Barnett recovered for Cincinnati. Binns then
scampered into the end zone from 15 yards out to cut the deficit to 38-30 with
about 5 1/2 minutes to play in the contest.
After the Bulls went three-and-out, the Bearcats took over at their own 29
with under 3 1/2 minutes remaining. With Collaros injured, junior Chazz
Anderson took over under center for Cincinnati. He got the home team to the
USF 16, but three incomplete passes gave the ball back to South Florida with
seven seconds to go.
Cincinnati came into the game with a 14-game winning streak at Nippert
Jake Rogers put the Bearcats ahead early with a 26-yard field goal with 5:27
left in the first quarter.
South Florida responded with a 13-play, 86-yard drive to take the lead.
Daniels capped the march with a three-yard rushing TD for a 7-3 advantage with
14:17 to play until half.
After Cincinnati went three-and-out, Daniels and Landi hooked up on a 31-
yard score to make it a 14-3 game. However, Binns caught a 20-yard touchdown
pass on the ensuing Bearcats possession to cut the gap to 14-10 with 9:40
The score was 17-13 at the break after the teams exchanged field goals.
Rogers' 44-yarder with over eight minutes to play in the third got Cincinnati
within one, 17-16. On the ensuing USF possession, Dontavia Bogan caught a 64-
yard pass and Murray scampered into the end zone from two yards out on the
following play to give the Bulls a 24-16 lead with 6:50 to go.
The Bearcats failed to get a first down on 4th-and-2 from the USF 30, and
Hornes hauled in a 71-yard TD pass on the next play to make it a 31-16 game
with 1:26 left.
Faced with a 4th-and-6 from the USF 32 early in the fourth quarter, Collaros
hooked up with Barnett for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 31-23. The Bulls
came right back with an eight-play, 58-yard drive that Daniels capped with a
one-yard TD run for a 38-23 margin with 9:32 to play.
