Final Score: Fresno State 28, Cincinnati 14
Fresno, CA (Sports Network) - Ryan Colburn threw for 247 yards and matched a
career-high with four touchdown passes, including two in the second half, to
lead Fresno State to a 28-14 season-opening comeback win over the Bearcats,
snapping Cincinnati's 18-game regular season winning streak.
Colburn completed 18-of-24 passes and was picked off once for the Bulldogs
(1-0), who won their sixth consecutive season opening game.
Jamel Hamler, Rashad Evans, Devon Wylie and Robbie Rouse each had a TD catch
for Fresno State, which was coming off an 8-5 season and a loss to Wyoming in
the New Mexico Bowl.
Zach Collaros connected on 24-of-41 passes for 219 yards with a TD for
Cincinnati (0-1), the two-time defending Big East champions who were
throttled by the Florida Gators in last season's Sugar Bowl.
The Bearcats couldn't get a win for new head coach Butch Jones. He replaced
Brian Kelly, who took the job at Notre Dame. They beat the Bulldogs last
season in Cincinnati.
Collaros threw a 23-yard TD pass to DJ Woods in the first quarter, and scored
on a five-yard run in the second.
But the Bulldogs tied the game by halftime thanks to a 20-yard TD catch by
Rouse and a 16-yarder from Hamler in the closing seconds.
Wylie's 28-yard scoring grab early in the third put the Bulldogs on top and
Evans accounted for the final margin with a 59-yard touchdown catch on the
first play of the fourth.
