Durham, NC (Sports Network) - Jacory Harris threw for 224 yards and a
touchdown as the Mimai-Forida Hurricanes bested the Duke Blue Devils 28-13 in
an Atlantic Coast Conference clash at Wallace Wade Stadium.
Harris was 17-of-34 for through the air for the Hurricanes (4-2, 2-1 ACC).
Damien Berry ran for 111 yards on 25 carries and scored a touchdown, while
Leonard Hankerson caught six balls for 80 yards and a score.
Sean Renfree was 20-of-41 through the air for Duke (1-5, 0-3), which has now
lost five straight, and nine consecutive games to FBS opponents. Renfree
accumulated 157 passing yards but was intercepted five times. Austin Kelly
caught six balls for 60 yards, while Jay Hollingsworth picked up 69 rushing
yards on 10 carries.
Will Snyderwine's 25-yard field goal gave the Blue Devils a 3-0 lead less than
a minute into the opening period.
The Hurricanes took the lead just seconds into the second quarter when Harris
found Hankerson with a 14-yard touchdown pass, then extended it to 14-3 with
four minutes left in the half when Harris ran for a 13-yard touchdown of his
Miami struck again in the first minute of the third quarter when Micanor Regis
picked off a Renfree pass and returned it 22 yards for a score.
Brandon Connette's one-yard run six minutes into the third quarter brought
Duke to within 21-10 but Berry's one-yard run restored Miami's lead to 28-10
with five-and-a-half minutes left.
Snyderwine added a 43-yard field goal for the Hurricanes with just over six
minutes left in the game.
Duke turned the ball over seven times, losing two fumbles in addition to the
five interceptions. Miami was just 3-of-12 on third-down conversions.
