Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Ryan Tannehill tossed three touchdowns and ran
for another, as the Texas A&M Aggies routed the Kansas Jayhawks, 45-10, in
Big 12 action at Memorial Stadium.
Tannehill, the backup, replaced starter Jerrod Johnson in the second quarter
and completed 12-of-16 pass attempts for 155 yards. Johnson added 139 yards
through the air and had 28 rushing yards and a touchdown, as he became Texas
A&M's (4-3, 1-2 Big 12) all-time leader in total offense. Jeff Fuller grabbed
five balls for 121 yards and two scores, while Ryan Swope made nine receptions
for 70 yards and a score. Cyrus Gray paced the ground attack with 117 yards
and a score on 13 carries.
Jordan Webb guided Kansas (2-5, 0-3) with 75 rushing yards on seven carries.
He also threw for 90 yards and a touchdown, but was picked twice. Tim Biere
pulled in four balls for 67 yards and a score in the losing cause.
The Aggies opened the scoring with a nine-yard run by Gray early in the first
Jacob Branstetter put the Jayhawks on the board with a 20-yard field goal
midway through the first quarter.
Johnson added to the Aggies lead behind a three-yard run moments later.
A 32-yard field goal by Randy Bullock gave Texas A&M a 17-3 lead early in the
Kansas responded a couple minutes later with a 16-yard touchdown pass from
Webb to Biere. It would represent the team's final score.
Tannehill threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Fuller and a 12-yard scoring
strike to Swope late in the first half to give the Aggies a 31-10 advantage at
Fuller and Tannehill hooked up again late in the third quarter, this time from
39 yards away.
Tannehill put the finishing touches of his performance with a six-yard
touchdown run early in the final frame.
