(Saturday, September 18th)

Final Score: (5) Oregon 69, Portland State 0

Eugene, OR (Sports Network) - Darron Thomas threw four touchdowns and LaMichael James scored twice on the ground as fifth-ranked Oregon ripped Portland State, 69-0, at Autzen Stadium.

Thomas completed 9-of-18 passes for 140 yards and James posted a career-high 227 yards on 14 carries for the Ducks (3-0), who topped New Mexico and Tennessee in previous weeks and cruised to victory by setting a school record with 528 yards on the ground.

"It was a little wet but we ran the ball well and opened up the passing game," said Thomas. "We've got to work hard, get better."

Jeff Maehl recorded 82 receiving yards and two scores on three catches, while Remene Alston, Jr., Nate Costa and Josh Huff added a rushing TD each.

Connor Kavanaugh was 8-of-21 for 18 yards and one interception for the Vikings (1-2), coming off a win over UC-Davis. Tygue Howland was 4-of-11 for 48 yards and a pick in relief.

"We're very disappointed," said Portland State head coach Nigel Burton. "In the end it was more mental breakdowns than physical breakdowns. I expected us to execute better than we did."

Cory McCaffrey was limited to 28 yards on the ground and Julius Thomas hauled in four balls for 48 yards in the rout.

Oregon continued its home domination with three touchdowns in the opening quarter.

James broke free for a 66-yard touchdown run, Thomas hit Maehl on a 47-yard scoring pass before the two connected again on a seven-yard TD.

James opened the second quarter for the Ducks with a 35-yard touchdown run, and it was 35-0 for Oregon on a 12-yard hook-up between Thomas and Daryle Hawkins.

Rob Beard hit a 27-yard field goal, then a 45-point half was capped when Thomas found Malachi Lewis for an eight-yard TD pass.

In the third quarter, Beard made a 41-yard try, Costa scored on a four-yard run and Huff added an 18-yard dash for a score which made it 62-0. Alston punctuated the period and the scoring with a 20-yard run to paydirt.
