Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - Theo Scott threw a pair of touchdown
passes and ran for another as he led the Ohio University Bobcats to a 44-37
win over the Bowling Green Falcons in Mid-American Conference action at Doyt
L. Perry Stadium.
Scott converted 11-of-19 passing for 203 yards and ran for another 82 yards on
just four attempts for the Bobcats (3-2, 1-0 MAC) as they won for the third
time in the last four outings.
The Falcons (1-4, 0-1), who have dropped four in a row since opening the
campaign with a 31-14 triumph over Troy last month, were paced by Tyler
Sheehan who converted 28-of-52 passing for 390 yards and a pair of touchdowns,
while surviving three sacks.
Jerry Phillips opened the day's scoring for the Falcons with a 33-yard field
goal early in the first frame. Less than six minutes later Ohio took the 6-3
lead on a 27-yard TD pass from Scott to LaVon Brazill as the PAT failed.
Phillips struck again for the Falcons in the second when he once more knocked
through a 33-yard effort to lock the score at 6-6.
Midway through the frame Brazill found himself in the end zone once again,
this time after a 72-yard punt return. The Bobcats moved the score to 20-6
when Chris Garrett scored the first of his two rushing TDs on the day with a
Before the first half could end, Sheehan combined with Ray Hutson on an 18-
yard touchdown play to cut the deficit for the Falcons to 20-13.
Phillips knocked through the third of his field goals, a 31-yard try, in the
third quarter to cap a 13-play, 44-yard drive and draw BGSU to within four.
A pair of touchdowns by Ohio within a span of just 1:45, the first coming on a
35-yard pass play between Scott and Taylor Price and the other a two-yard run
by Garrett, quickly pushed the Bobcats lead to 34-16.
But before the third period could end, the Falcons struck once more, this time
with a two-yard touchdown run by Freddie Barnes to make the score 34-23.
Ohio kicker Matt Weller finally got in on the action when he booted a 42-yard
field goal less than three minutes into the final frame.
Sheehan had his hand in a couple of touchdowns in the period for the Falcons
as he hit the end zone on a five-yard run and then combined with Justus Jones
on a seven-yard pass play, but in between Scott locked up the seven-point win
for the visitors on a 68-yard TD run.
Thanks to the efforts of Scott, Ohio finished the outing with 216 yards
rushing, compared to only 84 yards on 33 attempts by Bowling Green. The
production by the Falcons on the ground was not that unusual, seeing as how
the team entered the week ranked 118th nationally with a mere 66.8 ypg
