NCAA Game Summary - South Florida at Syracuse

Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) - BJ Daniels threw for 208 yards and two
touchdowns, as the South Florida Bulls claimed a 34-20 win over the turnover-
prone Syracuse Orange in a Big East matchup at the Carrier Dome.
Both of Daniels' touchdown passes went to Carlton Mitchell, who finished with
139 yards on six catches. Mike Ford ran for 68 yards and two scores for USF
(5-0, 1-0 Big East).
Mike Williams was one of the few bright spots for Syracuse (2-3, 0-1), as he
caught a career-high 13 passes for 186 yards and two TDs. But Greg Paulus had
an abysmal day under center, throwing five interceptions to go along with
three sacks.
Ford got the Bulls on the board first with a 26-yard touchdown scamper midway
through the first quarter.
Syracuse made it a 7-3 game on a 40-yard field goal by Ryan Lichtenstein with
1:50 remaining in the opening frame.
After the Orange defense forced a three-and-out on the ensuing possession, the
offense took over and went on a 12-play, 63-yard drive, capped by
Lichtenstein's 24-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 7-6 with 10:09
remaining until halftime.
The Bulls took a 14-6 lead on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Daniels to
Mitchell at the 6:06 mark of the second quarter, which was set up by Jerome
Murphy's interception at the Syracuse 36.
But the Bulls lost a fumble in the waning moments of the first half, and
Paulus made them pay with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Williams with 29
seconds remaining until halftime.
On the first play of the second half, Daniels tossed an 85-yard touchdown pass
to Mitchell to give USF a 21-13 lead.
The Bulls extended their lead to 27-13 on a five-yard touchdown run by Ford at
the 4:07 mark of the third quarter.
On the third play of the ensuing drive, Bulls defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul
intercepted a Paulus pass and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown to put USF
in the driver's seat.
Syracuse's final touchdown came on a 29-yard pass from Paulus to Williams with
10 minutes to play.
Syracuse had seven total turnovers, which USF turned into 27 points.
