Tempe, AZ (Sports Network) - Alex Zendejas kicked a 32-yard field goal on the
final play of the game to give the Arizona Wildcats a 20-17 win over the
Arizona State Sun Devils in a Pac 10 tilt.
The winning kick was set up when Arizona State's Kyle Williams muffed a punt
to give Arizona the ball in scoring range.
Keola Antolin ran for 78 yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats (7-4, 5-3
Pac-10). Nick Foles was 24-of-43 for 148 yards in the win.
Dimitri Nance ran for 115 yards on 23 carries for Arizona State (4-8, 2-7),
which finished its season with six straight losses. Danny Sullivan was 14-
of-28 through the air for 168 yards and two scores, while Kyle Williams
finished with 130 receiving yards on nine catches, plus two touchdowns.
The Wildcats took a 7-0 lead at the 3:54 mark of the opening period when
Antolin ran 67 yards for a touchdown.
Arizona extended its lead to 14-0 when Orlando Vargas blocked a punt and took
it 23 yards to the end zone with 3:50 left in the first half.
Arizona State got on the board on Thomas Weber's 26-yard field goal with 6:50
left in the third quarter. The Sun Devils then cut the deficit to 14-10 after
Sullivan hit Williams with a 44-yard touchdown pass with 11:54 left in the
game.
Zendejas restored Arizona's lead to 17-10 with a 30-yard field goal with 7:50
left in the game.
Sullivan found Williams with a 14-yard scoring pass with 2:02 left to tie the
game at 17-17.
The outcome gives Arizona back-to-back victories over the Sun Devils for the
first time since 1997-98. The Wildcats lead the all-time series between the
instate rivals, 46-36-1.
