Evanston, IL (Sports Network) - Mike Kafka threw for 191 yards and also had
two rushing touchdowns, as the Northwestern Wildcats stifled the Miami-Ohio
RedHawks, 16-6, in a non-conference tilt at Ryan Field.
The Northwestern (4-2) defense was the real story, as the Wildcats notched
four takeaways and seven sacks.
Miami (0-6) quarterback Zac Dysert threw for 176 yards and rushed for a team-
high 59 yards, but he was also intercepted three times in the loss.
The Wildcats got the ball first, but their opening drive stalled and Stefan
Demos kicked a 46-yard field goal to give NU an early 3-0 lead.
The Wildcats pushed their lead to 10-0 late in the opening quarter, when Kafka
capped a 12-play, 73-yard drive with a six-yard touchdown scamper.
Kafka scored again on a one-yard run at the 1:18 mark of the third quarter to
give NU a 16-0 lead.
Miami avoided the shutout with a 23-yard scoring strike from Dysert to Andrew
Cruse with 1:19 to play.
The Wildcats defense forced six turnovers in last week's win over Purdue. In
the first half of today's game, they had five sacks and were able to hold
Miami to 113 yards of total offense.
