Description: Tom Silverstein from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that linebacker Clay Matthews has agreed to a five-year, $66 million contract extension with the Packers.
Insight: We had heard rumblings that the two sides were close to a deal and now it's official. Matthews struggled with injuries last season (13 sacks, 43 tackles in 12 games) but he's still one of the most feared linebackers in all of football.

Insight: Green Bay was hoping Matthews would be fully recovered by now, but at this point they are just hoping he'll be ready for Week 15. This is great news for Matthew Stafford and the Lions' offense.

Insight: Green Bay is on bye so hopefully the extra week will allow Matthews to get healthy in time for Week 11's matchup in Detroit.

Insight: Matthews was sorely missed in Week 6 vs. Miami as he leads the team (and the NFL) in sacks. His return will give the Packers defense a much-needed boost since it has been riddled with injuries so far this year.

Insight: The Packers don't like Matthews' chances of playing, but he will work out on Sunday morning to see if he can suit up. The Packers defense as a whole suffers a huge downgrade with Matthews out.

Insight: Matthews is essentially playing the strong-side on the inside so he'll be facing more tight ends and extra blockers, which will limit his IDP value.
