Description: Laveranues Coles suggested Monday that this is his final season and he will retire as a Jet.
Insight: He?ll be little more than a novelty act with the Jets, but he deserves to retire as a proud member of Gang Green. (

Description: According to Jets HC Rex Ryan, the team might cut WR Laveranues Coles after WR Santonio Holmes returns from his four-game suspension. SOURCE: NEW YORK POST
Insight: We reported the same thing as soon as we found out Coles was going to be signed. The team really has no use for him with Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes and Jerricho Cotchery as the top three receivers Week Five.

Description: Free agent Laveranues Coles is expected to be signed after working out for the Jets on Friday, according to's Rich Cimini.
Insight: This is unexpected, but it shouldn't matter all that much. Coles offers little fantasy value at this point. (

Description: After working out on Friday, the Jets are expected to sign free agent WR Laveranues Coles. SOURCE: ESPNNEWYORK.COM
Insight: Coles offered very little in the way of offense in just one year with the Bengals in 2009. But with Santonio Holmes out for the first four games, he will be used as the No. 3 behind Braylon Edwards and Jericho Cotchery. We'd be surprised to see him remain on the roster after Holmes comes back. This doesn't say much for the Jets' confidence in David Clowney or Brad Smith.

Description: A potential Jets re-signing of free agent Laveranues Coles may not occur until training camp.
Insight: The only way this move happens is if the Jets are legitimately worried that Santonio Holmes' suspension will completely derail the offense. Otherwise, there is very little reason to go out and sign Coles. (
5/2/2010 7:07:00 PM
Description: The Jets have reportedly been in contact with the player rep for free agent Laveranues Coles
Insight: This move would make very little sense for the Jets as they already have enough possession receivers. They would be better off giving a rookie a chance to earn some playing time during Santonio Holmes? suspension. (

Description: Free agent Laveranues Coles will not be back with the Jets now that Santonio Holmes is in the fold, according to Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News
Insight: This scenario never really made much sense, so it's a good thing that it's pretty much been put to bed. Coles will have to accept a drastically reduced role wherever he ends up. (
3/8/2010 10:31:00 PM
Description: Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum confirmed that the team has some interest in bringing Coles back.
Insight: This is interesting because...well, unless he comes incredibly cheaply, the move would defy logic as they have a host of young receivers and are now more of a running team.. The Jets-Coles reunion would not do a whole lot for the receiver's fantasy value, either. (
3/6/2010 1:03:00 PM
Description: Free agent Coles has said that he will reach out to the Jets to see if there is any interest in signing him.
Insight: It's a nice idea, but the Jets are pretty set at receiver in terms of veterans at the moment and will probably draft a wideout in April. As Austin Powers might have said, "That train has sailed." (
1/11/2010 8:29:00 AM
Description: Coles had six catches for 48 yards and a touchdown against the Jets on Saturday.
Insight: The six catches tied a season-high as the Bengals were forced to throw trying to mount a comeback. (
1/5/2010 12:05:00 AM
Description: Coles had three catches for 19 yards on Sunday against the Jets.
Insight: Coles finished the season with 43 receptions for 514 yards and five touchdowns in his first season with the Bengals. (
12/28/2009 8:14:00 AM
Description: Coles caught three passes for 43 yards and a touchdown against the Chiefs on Sunday.
Insight: Coles has a touchdown catch in back-to-back games and now has five total on the season. (
12/22/2009 12:52:00 AM
Description: Coles had four catches for 48 yards and scored a touchdown against the Chargers on Sunday.
Insight: Coles had more than two catches in a game for the first time since Week 10 against the Steelers. (
12/14/2009 7:59:00 PM
Description: Coles failed to make a catch in the Bengals' loss to the Vikings on Sunday.
Insight: Coles has only six catches over his last four games and has little fantasy value. (
12/6/2009 11:44:00 PM
Description: Coles had two catches for 25 yards against the Lions on Sunday.
Insight: Coles has had only two catches in each of his last three games for a total of 110 yards. (
12/4/2009 8:16:00 PM
Description: Coles (chest) is listed as probable for Sunday's game.
Insight: He's a tough guy and should certainly play. However, the fact that he is losing looks to Andre Caldwell doesn't bode well for his fantasy statistics. (
11/9/2009 8:21:00 AM
Description: Coles had six catches for 72 yards and one carry for eight yards against the Ravens on Sunday.
Insight: Coles had his best game of the season for the Bengals as he had a season-high six catches. (
Steady7/11/2009 9:57:00 PM
Description: Coles should make for a nice under-the-radar receiver if Carson Palmer can prove healthy.
Insight: Coles has had at least 70 receptions in six of the last seven years. He equaled his season high in TD's with seven last year, but three of them came in the same game. (
3/4/2009 5:32:00 PM
Description: NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Coles has signed with the Bengals. Coles spent the past four seasons and seven of his nine with the Jets before being released last month.
Insight: Coles steps into a role in which T.J. Houshmandzadeh caught at least 90 balls in each of the past three seasons. He hasn't reached that level since 2006, but Coles will play with the best quarterback of his career so far in Carson Palmer this season. As long as he can stay healthy, Coles should at least be good for his rough season averages over the past four years of about 77 catches, 890 yards and six touchdowns. (
2/25/2009 7:55:00 PM
Description: Coles was released by the Jets on Wednesday, walking away from a guaranteed $6 million this season, according to
Insight: Assuming it's true that he gave up such money, it would seem likely that Coles will have no trouble landing elsewhere. A player has an agent to "research" such things. We can't know his value until he does land, but his departure turns Jerricho Cotchery into the Jets' clear No. 1. It could also push Chansi Stuckey into a starting role. (
