Final Score: Hamilton 33, Toronto 19
Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Henry Burris threw a pair of touchdown passes in the Hamilton Tiger-Cats' 33-19 win over the Toronto Argonauts.
Burris was 19-of-31 for 274 yards with an interception for the Tiger-Cats (7-7), who have alternated wins and losses over their last seven games.
"We want to be one of the top of echelon teams in the league, we took a step tonight," Burris said.
C.J. Gable racked up 96 yards and a score on the ground and Bakari Grant hauled in five passes for 93 yards and a touchdown in the triumph.
The win pulled Hamilton four points behind the Argos for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
Zach Collaros was 21-of-32 for 277 yards and an interception for Toronto (9-5), which had its four-game winning streak snapped and could've clinched a home playoff game with a win.
"We couldn't finish drives," Collaros said. "You can't settle for field goals, we had too many two-and-outs in the second half."
Toronto trailed by as many as 19 in the first half, but cut the deficit to 23-19 after Swayze Waters nailed his fourth field goal of the night, a 42- yarder, to make it 23-19 with a little under 11 minutes to go in the fourth.
Hamilton, though, scored the last 10 points of the game.
Burris hit Grant for a 15-yard touchdown on its ensuing drive and after Toronto went two-and-out, Burris took four-plus minutes off the clock before Brett Lauther nailed a 29-yard field goal with 1:16 left to make it 33-19.
Earlier, Burris found Luke Tasker for a 24-yard score to cap Hamilton's opening drive of the game and a single later in the frame staked the Tiger- Cats an 8-0 advantage after a quarter of play.
A Waters 35-yard field goal got Toronto on the board on the first play of the second quarter, but Gable sprinted 25 yards for a score midway through the stanza and LeFevour plunged in from a yard out later in the quarter to increase the margin to 22-3.
Waters booted through a 39-yard field goal just prior to the half and split the uprights from nine yards out to cap Toronto's initial offensive sequence in the third to whittle the deficit to 22-9.
Curtis Steele blocked Hamilton's ensuing punt, which was scooped up and returned by Marcus Ball for three yards to the Tiger-Cats' 1-yard line. Collaros plunged in a play later to make it 22-16.
Hamilton added a single early in the fourth before another Waters field goal, this one from 42 yards, pulled the hosts within four.
Hamilton is plus-47 in point differential in the first quarter ... Toronto allowed only 14 first-quarter points coming into the game, but allowed eight on Friday.
