The Jets have won six of the last eight games but Kane has just three points (all goals) this month after putting together an eight-game scoring streak in February.

Insight: The original Winnipeg Jets club was a WHA franchise which merged into the NHL in 1979 and played until 1996, when the team was sold and relocated as the Phoenix Coyotes. It sounds like the original intent of the True North ownership group was to use a different name, but public pressure of restoring the Jets name seemed to win out.

Insight: Noel coached the Manitoba Moose of the AHL last season, so he is already familiar with the True North management team. Noel's only other NHL experience was as the interim head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets at the end of the 2009-10 season.

Insight: It appears that Cheveldayoff and the Winnipeg people are intent on hiring their own guy for the job. Claude Noel, who was the coach of the Manitoba Moose last season and also briefly coached the Columbus Blue Jackets, is rumored to be the coach that Cheveldayoff has in mind, but no announcement has been made.

Insight: The new Winnipeg team, which does not have a team name yet, is expected to stay in the Southeast Division for one more year before being realigned into a more geographically favorable division. Congratulations to the people of Winnipeg, who have waited 15 years for the return of NHL hockey. However, it's a sad day for hockey fans in Atlanta, as they have now lost two NHL teams to relocation.
