Falcons extend Smith, Dimitroff and McKay
Flowery Branch, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Falcons signed head coach Mike Smith, team president Rich McKay and general manager Thomas Dimitroff to contract extensions on Monday.
Dimitroff and Smith each signed one-year extensions, while McKay received a four-year extension through May 2019.
"We are fortunate to have talented key leaders at the Falcons who are dedicated to a common goal of being a league leader on and off the field," Falcons owner Arthur Blank said in a statement. "I have great respect for the skills and commitment of Rich, Thomas and Smitty, and I look forward to continuing to support and work with them in the years to come."
The 54-year-old Smith is entering his seventh season with the Falcons. Before Smith took over for the 2008 campaign, the Falcons had never posted back-to- back winning seasons since joining the NFL in 1966.
Atlanta had five straight winning seasons under Smith, including four trips to the playoffs, prior to a 4-12 mark in 2013.
Smith has posted a regular-season record of 60-36 during his time with the Falcons. Smith, the AP NFL Coach of the Year in 2008, has a 1-4 mark in the playoffs.
Dimitroff is also entering his seventh season with the Falcons. McKay is going into his 11th season with the team.
