Kelly on Vick: 'I don't know if he'll play Sunday'
Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly is unsure if quarterback Michael Vick will be available to play next Sunday's road game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"I don't know if he'll play Sunday. Right now he's day-to-day, and we'll see how he goes through the rehab process," Kelly said on Monday, a day after Vick left the Eagles' 36-21 win over the New York Giants with a hamstring injury.
Vick pulled up lame while running out of bounds on a 13-yard scramble late in the first half.
While Kelly refused to rule Vick out, multiple reports have already indicated that the veteran quarterback will unlikely be healthy enough to go, meaning second-year signal-caller Nick Foles will make his seventh career NFL start.
Foles replaced Vick against the Giants and threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes in the victory. Kelly said after the game that Vick would remain his starter.
However, a strong performance may sway the coach to make a change.
"Yeah, there's always open competition, so if Nick goes out there and goes 100-for-100 and throws 27 touchdown passes, then yeah," Kelly said when asked if Foles could win the job going forward.
Foles' lone victory as a starter came last December at Tampa Bay.
