Description: Athletics starter A.J. Griffin went six innings and held Seattle to two runs on seven hits and two walks Thursday afternoon.
Insight: Griffin is expected to remain in the rotation when Bartolo Colon returns in a few days. Dan Straily will start Friday against Houston and makes for a good streaming option but he is likely to be demoted following the start.

Description: The Athletics have placed rookie starter A.J. Griffin on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury.

Description: An MRI on the shoulder of A.J. Griffin showed no structural damage, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Description: Athletics rookie A.J. Griffin left Saturday's game after 1 2/3 innings with tightness in his right shoulder, the team announced.
Insight: Griffin has been outstanding in seven starts, going 3-0 with a 2.51 ERA and a 35/10 K/BB ratio prior to Saturday. The right-hander's fastball velocity reportedly dropped to the low 80s on two consecutive pitches before he was removed, so this may be more than just tightness.

Description: Athletics rookie A.J. Griffin dazzled again Wednesday, striking out nine Blue Jays over six scoreless innings to extend his undefeated record.
Insight: Griffin (3-0, 2.25 ERA) has thrown exactly six innings in each of his first six big league starts and he's allowed three earned runs or less in all of them. The right-hander also has a 29/8 K/BB ratio in 36 innings. He's an excellent short-term add in deeper leagues, though Oakland will have a difficult decision to make when Brandon McCarthy comes back from the DL.

Description: Athletics rookie A.J. Griffin has made five starts against quality lineups and has pitched well, going 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA and 1.000 WHIP.
Insight: Griffin has yet to allow more than three earned runs in any start and won his last two starts against the Yankees and Twins. Given how well the A's are playing, Griffin should be on fantasy radar screens. His current Yahoo ownership level of 11 percent is likely to rise quickly.

6/29/2012 10:53:00 PM
Description: Athletics rookie A.J. Griffin was on track for his first career win in his second big league start Friday against Texas, but reliever Grant Balfour allowed four runs in the eighth to blow a 2-0 lead.
Insight: Griffin allowed just two hits in six shutout innings. The right-hander should have a chance to stick for a few more starts with Bartolo Colon and Brandon McCarthy on the disabled list, so he makes for a good short-term add.

Description: Athletics rookie A.J. Griffin held San Francisco to two runs on three hits in six innings Sunday in his first major league start. Griffin walked one and struck out four.
Insight: Griffin is a control artist, having walked just 14 batters in 94 2/3 minor league innings split between Double-A and Triple-A this season. The right-hander was 6-3 with a 2.66 ERA in 15 combined starts, including 84 strikeouts. He's worth a short-term add while Brandon McCarthy and Bartolo Colon are on the DL.
