Description: Yankees righty Michael Pineda (shoulder) threw five innings Thursday in an extended spring training game, according to Andy McCullough of the Newark Star-Ledger.
Insight: Pineda's fastball sat at 93 mph, according to Yankees GM Brian Cashman. The right-hander could start a minor league rehab assignment after one more extended spring appearance. He should be added in all leagues, as he had a 3.74 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP and 173 strikeouts as a rookie with the Mariners in 2011 before missing all of last year following shoulder surgery.

Insight: Yankees GM Brian Cashman called it "a good, physical day." Pineda's recovery from shoulder surgery appears to be going well and he could return anywhere from late-June to mid-July.

Description: Yankees righty Michael Pineda (shoulder) reported to camp at 260 pounds, 20 pounds less than a year ago. The best case scenario is that Pineda could be a big league option in June. SOURCE: MLBlogs.com
Insight: Pineda just started throwing off a full mound and should start facing hitters next month under "controlled conditions." Fantasy owners who draft Pineda shouldn't expect to have him back until July.

Description: ESPN New York reports that Yankees starting pitcher Michael Pineda won't be ready for the start of spring training. Pineda missed the entire 2012 season because of a shoulder injury.
Insight: It's looking like Pineda won't be available until the second half of the 2013 campaign. As promising as he looked during his rookie campaign with the Mariners in 2011 (9-10, 3.74 ERA, 173 K's), we wouldn't waste a pick on Pineda in next season's fantasy draft.

Description: Yankees starter Michael Pineda was arrested for DUI Monday morning in Tampa, Florida.
Insight: Pineda underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn labrum in late April this year and never threw a regular season pitch for the Yankees. This shouldn't affect his standing for next season but we'd like to see him display more maturity (he also reported to spring training overweight this season).

Description: Michael Pineda (shoulder) is aiming to begin throwing in mid-September.
Insight: Pineda underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn labrum in late April this year. The 23-year-old is hoping to be ready to go for spring training next season after 2012's washout.

4/25/2012 5:13:00 PM
Description: Michael Pineda's MRI revealed a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder.
Insight: Pineda is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery next Tuesday, which will put an end to his 2012 season. Quite a disappointment for the Yankees, who acquired him for top prospect Jesus Montero in the offseason, and for fantasy owners, who drafted Pineda expecting a breakout year after his dominant rookie campaign in 2011.

Description: Michael Pineda (shoulder) will undergo an MRI in New York on Tuesday.
Insight: Pineda was shut down indefinitely after he felt pain in his shoulder on Saturday. Hopefully the MRI doesn't reveal any long-term damage, but even if it goes well we don't expect Pineda back anytime soon.

Description: New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda had a setback in his return from a shoulder injury. He was scheduled to pitch two innings on Saturday but was shut down after reporting weakness.
Insight: It looks like the predicted early May return may have to be pushed back, but we will know more after a status update next week.

4/5/2012 3:46:00 PM
Description: Michael Pineda played catch from 60 feet for about eight minutes on Thursday, then briefly worked on his delivery off the mound without throwing, according to the New York Post's Joel Sherman.
Insight: So far, so good for Pineda as he begins his recovery from right shoulder inflammation. Hopefully this time off allows Pineda to get over his ailment and start throwing 95-plus mph again like he did with Seattle as a rookie.

3/31/2012 2:38:00 PM
Description: Michael Pineda will start the season on the DL with right shoulder inflammation, according to Marc Carig of the Newark Star Ledger.
Insight: Pineda has lacked velocity this spring, forcing the pitching-rich Yankees to consider moving him to Triple-A to begin the season. This is bad news for those who invested heavily in the youngster on the hope that he would be in for a breakout 2012 with New York. Pineda went 9-10 with a 3.74 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 173 strikeouts in 171 innings for Seattle last season before the Mariners dealt him to the Yankees for Jesus Montero. Hopefully this doesn't develop into a long-term issue.

3/30/2012 4:54:00 PM
Description: Joe Girardi has not made any decisions yet but it's still possible that Michael Pineda could start the year outside of the rotation.
Insight: Pineda, who has a 3.31 ERA in spring training, could even start the year in Triple-A, which is a pretty shocking possibility after he was an All-Star for Seattle last season. Freddy Garcia (1-1, 2.92 this spring) is likely Pineda's biggest competition for the fifth spot in the Yankees' starting rotation.

3/25/2012 7:50:00 PM
Description: Michael Pineda was impressive Sunday in a tie with Detroit. He tossed five innings for the Yankees, allowing five hits and just one earned run. Pineda struck out four and walked two.
Insight: This could very well be Pineda's last start of the spring, and it was a good one. Pineda has had a strong spring (1-0, 3.31 ERA in five starts) and it looks like he has locked up a spot in the New York rotation. At age 23, the hard-throwing Pineda has tons of fantasy potential.
