Description: Royals starter Ervin Santana's longball issues returned Thursday against the Angels. He allowed four homers and five earned runs on eight hits in 7 2/3 innings.
Insight: Santana was bombed for 39 homers in 178 innings last season with the Angels, but he had given up just six in 55 1/3 innings this year and three over his last 49 1/3 innings. He'll try to regroup at St. Louis his next time out.

Hot5/2/2013 6:01:00 PM
Description: Royals starter Ervin Santana struck out seven batters in four scoreless innings Thursday against the Rays but the game was postponed due to snow.
Insight: The stats won't count. Santana was bombed for 39 homers in 178 innings last season with the Angels, but he has rediscovered his top form this year and is 3-1 with a 2.00 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP in 36 innings.

Hot4/27/2013 10:29:00 PM
Description: Royals starter Ervin Santana fired seven scoreless innings Saturday in a win over Cleveland.
Insight: After years of struggling in Anaheim, it appears Santana has finally found his niche in Kansas City. Over his last four starts, Santana is 3-0 with a 1.20 ERA.

Hot4/21/2013 4:43:00 PM
Description: Kansas City righthander Ervin Santana outpitched Ryan Dempster Sunday in a 4-2 win at Fenway Park.
Insight: Santana struck out seven Red Sox in seven innings. He allowed two runs and six hits without walking a batter. His 2.48 ERA this season is second-best among Royals starters.

4/14/2013 8:15:00 PM
Description: Royals starter Ervin Santana held Toronto to two runs (one earned) on seven hits in eight innings Sunday. He walked three and struck out four.
Insight: Santana has tossed eight innings in each of the last two starts and has a 19/5 K/BB in 22 innings. As long as he can limit the home runs, he should be able to keep his ERA around 4.00.

4/8/2013 10:05:00 PM
Description: Righthander Ervin Santana limited the Twins to just one run Monday in Kansas City's home opener.
Insight: Santana threw 104 pitches over eight innings. That's his longest outing since June 23rd when he tossed eight frames against the Dodgers.

4/3/2013 5:24:00 PM
Description: Ervin Santana's first start with the Royals was a mixed bag, as he struck out eight and allowed five hits in six innings but gave up three homers and four runs.
Insight: The longball was an issue for Santana last season; he gave up 39 of them in just 178 innings. He'll have to solve that issue before fantasy owners can trust him.

10/31/2012 7:31:00 PM
Description: The Angels have traded starting pitcher Ervin Santana to the Royals in exchange for lefthander Brandon Sisk.
Insight: Los Angeles had no interest in keeping Santana following his wildly inconsistent 2012 campaign (9-13, 5.16 ERA in 30 starts). The Angels are also looking to trade disappointing starter Dan Haren (12-13, 4.33 ERA) before Friday's deadline for team options.

8/16/2012 9:51:00 AM
Description: Los Angeles righthander Ervin Santana turned in a strong performance Wednesday against the Indians. In seven innings, Santana surrendered just one run on four hits, walking one and striking out four.
Insight: Santana (6-10, 5.59 ERA) has proved to be a maddeningly inconsistent fantasy player in the past, but he's still capable of putting together a dominant performance every now and then. Santana seems to have settled down in August (1-0, 3.26) after a rough July (1-2, 12.21).

7/21/2012 7:43:00 PM
Description: Angels starter Ervin Santana didn't get out of the second inning Saturday for the second time in his last three starts, serving up six runs on eight hits in 1 2/3 innings against the Rangers.
Insight: Santana (4-10, 6.00 ERA) has had a rocky season and it got a little rockier Saturday. The right-hander simply can't be trusted.

7/4/2012 8:22:00 PM
Description: Angels starter Ervin Santana walked three and allowed eight runs on six hits in 1 1/3 innings against Cleveland Wednesday to drop to 4-9.
Insight: Santana appeared to be turning a corner when he tossed a one-hit shutout on June 16 and followed it up with eight-strong innings in his next start, but he's allowed 13 runs in his last 6 1/3 innings. It's time to cut him loose, he's too inconsistent to start on a regular basis.

Hot6/23/2012 10:11:00 PM
Description: Angels starter Ervin Santana followed up the one-hit shutout in his last start with an eight-inning performance against the Dodgers Saturday. Santana held Los Angeles to three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out 10 and walking none. However, he took the loss as the Angels could only muster one run against Chris Capuano.
Insight: Santana is in a major groove right now and we've already seen earlier this season what he can do when that happens. Santana went 2-2 with 2.25 ERA in a five-start stretch from April 29 to May 20. However, he followed that up by allowing four earned runs or more in each of the next four starts. Grab Santana for his potential but understand that it can go south at any time.

6/17/2012 10:18:00 AM
Description: Angels starter Ervin Santana turned in his best performance of the season Saturday night against the Diamondbacks. Santana allowed one hit in nine shutout innings, striking out five and walking just one.
Insight: It was Santana's second straight win and he now joins Nolan Ryan as one of just two pitchers in Angels history to have thrown a no-hitter and a one-hitter with the team. With the win, Santana was able to secure his place in the Los Angeles rotation: manager Mike Scioscia says Santana will still be a starter even when Jered Weaver comes off the DL.

6/10/2012 7:45:00 PM
Description: Angels starter Ervin Santana allowed seven runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings Sunday against Colorado. Santana walked one and struck out three.
Insight: Santana fell to 3-7 on the year. Though the right-hander started out 0-4 with a 7.23 ERA, he appeared to be turning a corner when he went 2-2 with a 2.25 ERA over five starts from April 29 to May 20, but he's registered a 10.18 ERA over his last four starts. It's safe to drop him in mixed leagues.

5/15/2012 10:21:00 PM
Description: Ervin Santana has now won two in a row after starting the season off 0-6. Tuesday against Oakland, he tossed 7.2 scoreless frames, allowing just four hits and three walks. Santana fanned nine batters in the 4-0 Anaheim win.
Insight: Santana was able to lower his ERA to 4.36 ERA in the process. His ERA over his last four starts is actually 2.10 so Santana is definitely on the rise. The Angels' shaky offense to start the year can definitely be to blame for a few of Santana's losses, so don't close the door on Santana's season just yet.

5/9/2012 12:28:00 PM
Description: Ervin Santana (0-6, 5.59 ERA) is 3-3 with a 4.55 ERA in his career against the Minnesota Twins, the team he'll face on Wednesday.
Insight: Santana is trying to avoid going 0-7. The Angels have been shut out in each of his last five starts, the first time that happened to one starting pitcher in MLB history. However, the Twins have been shut out three times in the past seven games, so keep Santana in your lineup tonight.

5/5/2012 10:53:00 AM
Description: Ervin Santana gave up three runs on three hits with 10 strikeouts in eight innings against the Blue Jays on Friday, but he took his sixth loss of the season.
Insight: The Angels have scored all of three runs in Santana's starts, and all of them came in his first turn -- they've been shut out five straight times when Santana (0-6) throws. Santana hasn't exactly pitched well, carrying a 5.59 ERA, but he's been better his last two times out, giving up five runs in 15 innings (3.00 ERA).

5/21/2011 10:11:00 AM
Description: Ervin Santana tossed a complete game four hit shut out against the Braves on Friday night and most impressively he struck out seven without issuing a single walk.
Insight: I'm not a big Santana fan but his ERA is now down to 4.18 and is a definite player to own in AL only and worth an add in deep mixed leagues.

4/24/2011 8:37:00 AM
Description: Angels SP Ervin Santana dropped to 0-3 on the season, allowing 5 runs in 7 innings against the Red Sox. He gave up 9 hits and a walk and struck out 9.
Insight: While Santana is struggling, his 28:8 K:BB ratio is solid; expect him to turn things around soon and try to buy low on him if you can.

2/23/2011 11:36:00 AM
Description: Angels SP Ervin Santana began experimenting with a split-fingered fastball in September and is gaining enough confidence in it that he plans to take it into the season. SOURCE: Los Angeles Times
Insight: Santana is currently projected as a #6 SP in mixed leagues; with a new pitch he could see a bump in strikeouts, which will increase his fantasy value in 2011.
