Insight: The results should help clarify his availability for the start of the season. Insight: The Dodgers are scheduled to open their season March 22nd against the Diamondbacks. Kemp, however, is still recovering from ankle and shoulder surgeries. While the Australia series remains a long shot for Kemp, we wouldn't expect the two-time All-Star to miss too much regular season time.

Description: According to Matt Kemp's agent, Dave Stewart, Kemp will not be ready for the season opener.

Description: The Red Sox have checked in on Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp. SOURCE: Nick Cafardo, Boston Globe
Insight: With Jacoby Ellsbury likely headed elsewhere, Kemp is about as good a replacement as you could find in center field. The problem is, he won't come any cheaper than Ellsbury would have (he still has six years and $130 million remaining on his contract) and that was the whole point of dumping Ellsbury in the first place. The Red Sox and Dodgers do have a history after 2012's mega-deal that brought Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett and Adrian Gonzalez to Los Angeles (the only player of note Boston received was James Loney) but a deal involving Kemp seems unlikely at this point.

Insight: It was Kemp's second operation in as many weeks after undergoing shoulder surgery earlier this month. Hopefully all these procedures will prevent Kemp from breaking down again like he did in 2013 (just 73 games played).
