Miami Marlins (13-34) at Chicago White Sox (21-24), 8:10 p.m.
Probable Starting Pitchers: Miami - Tom Koehler (0-2, 2.82) Chicago - John Danks (0-0, 0.00)
(Sports Network) - Lefty John Danks makes his first start of the season after a prolonged stretch on the disabled list when the Chicago White Sox host the Miami Marlins in the opener of a three-game interleague series at U.S. Cellular Field.
A former first-round pick of the Texas Rangers in 2003, Danks reached double- digit wins in three straight seasons from 2008 to 2010, then dipped to eight victories in 2011 and only three in nine starts last season.
Danks opened 2013 on the disabled list following left shoulder surgery in the offseason.
He's made four rehab starts in the minor leagues and has gone 2-0 with a 3.18 earned run average in 22 2/3 innings of work.
Danks allowed 18 hits and 10 runs across the four starts - one at Double-A Birmingham and three at Triple-A Charlotte - while walking 13 batters and striking out 15.
He has never faced the Marlins.
Miami replies with righty Tom Koehler, who starts for the third time after beginning 2013 with six appearances out of the bullpen.
Koehler started once in eight outings last season while going 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA, then began 2013 with six relief stints and posted a 3.18 ERA across 11 1/3 innings.
He made his initial start on May 12 and dropped a 5-3 verdict to the Los Angeles Dodgers, then dropped a 1-0 verdict to the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 18.
In the two starts, he's worked 11 innings, allowing 10 hits and three runs with three walks and eight strikeouts.
Koehler has never faced the White Sox.
On Wednesday in Miami, 85 of Cliff Lee's 115 pitches went for strikes as the veteran left-hander tossed his 12th career shutout to guide the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-0 victory over the Marlins in the rubber match of a three-game series from Marlins Park.
Marlins starter Kevin Slowey (1-5) left after five innings with an apparent strained left lat muscle. Slowey had allowed just one run on six hits while fanning six.
In Chicago, Boston put two runs across in the first inning and that is all Clay Buchholz would need as the right-hander went seven strong innings to help the Red Sox to a 6-2 win over the White Sox in the finale of a three-game set.
David Ortiz drove in two with a single to left in the opening frame off Hector Santiago (1-3), who struck out nine over six innings of work. Santiago got the start in place of Chris Sale, who was scratched with shoulder tendinitis but is expected to make his next scheduled start.
The White Sox defeated the Marlins in two of three games when they last met in 2010. Previously, the Marlins won two of three in series in 2004 and 2007.
