MLB Game Summary - San Diego at Seattle

(Wednesday, June 13th)

Final Score: San Diego 1, Seattle 0

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Yonder Alonso hit a solo homer and Jason Marquis picked up his first win in a San Diego uniform, as the Padres snuck past the Seattle Mariners, 1-0, in the middle installment of a three-game series.

Marquis (1-1), making his second start for San Diego, gave up six hits over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked four.

"Jason did a nice job keeping the ball below the strike zone, kept the ball at the knees when he needed to throw a strike, threw inside well with the fastball," Padres manager Bud Black said. "If you were to script out a Jason Marquis game, that's what it would look like."

The Padres, who took a 5-4 decision in the opener of this series on Tuesday, have won two straight away from home for the first time since a three-game sweep at Colorado from September 19-21, 2011.

Hector Noesi (2-7) allowed one run on five hits over seven full frames to take the hard-luck loss for the Mariners, who have lost four in a row. He struck out five and walked three.

"Offensively, we've just got to figure this out here at home, it's no secret," Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. "We've shown what we're capable of doing it on the road and we've just gotta work to help these guys get over the hump here at home."

The Mariners put a runner on third with two outs in the second, but John Jaso flied out.

It remained a scoreless game until Alonso hit a homer to right in the seventh.

But Alonso's error in the bottom half of the inning allowed Seattle to load the bases. Jaso walked and Casper Wells singled with one out. Alonso's missed catch error allowed Munenori Kawasaki to reach base. Joe Thatcher came in with the bags full and got Ichiro Suzuki to hit a grounder to third. Chase Headley went home with the throw for the second out. Dustin Ackley struck out looking to end the threat.

Seattle put men on the corners with two outs in the eighth, but Jaso struck out swinging.

Huston Street tossed a perfect ninth for his seventh save of the season.

Game Notes

The Mariners made several roster moves prior to Wednesday's contest. Seattle activated outfielder Franklin Gutierrez off the 15-day disabled list and placed outfielder Mike Carp and pitcher Stephen Pryor on the 15-day disabled list. The Mariners also recalled pitchers Erasmo Ramirez and Steve Delabar and outfielder Wells from Triple-A Tacoma. Pitcher Blake Beavan and infielder Alex Liddi were optioned to Tacoma...Headley extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single in the first inning.
