White Sox, Rockies wrap up series in Colorado

(SportsNetwork.com) - Right-hander Erik Johnson gets a taste of interleague play for the first time on Wednesday afternoon when the Chicago White Sox return to Coors Field to wrap up a three-game series with the host Colorado Rockies.

The start is the second of the season for the major-league novice, who made his debut with the White Sox in September and is now 3-3 with a 4.73 earned run average in six starts.

Johnson, who has never faced the Rockies, was tagged for 10 hits, three walks and seven runs in just 4 2/3 innings of his 2014 curtain-raiser, which ended in a 7-5 loss at Kansas City on Friday.

Colorado opposes him with fellow righty Juan Nicasio, who was strong in his first start of 2014 after skidding late in the 2013 season.

Nicasio had an ERA above 20.00 in his final three starts at Coors Field last season, but rebounded on Friday against Arizona while allowing only four hits and a walk in seven innings of a 12-2 triumph.

He's won two of five decisions in eight career interleague starts, but has never faced the White Sox.

On Tuesday, Jose Abreu and Avisail Garcia both clubbed a pair of homers to lead the White Sox in a 15-3 pounding of the Rockies.

Abreu finished with five RBI and Garcia recorded four hits and drove in three.

Alexei Ramirez and Tyler Flowers also clubbed homers for the White Sox, winners in two of their last three games.

Jose Quintana (1-0) allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings to earn the win.

Michael Cuddyer went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and Troy Tulowitzki added a pair of RBI for the Rockies, who were out-hit 19-7.

Franklin Morales (0-1) allowed six runs on eight hits and four walks over 6 1/3 innings to absorb the loss.

Chicago took two of three from Colorado the last time these teams met back in 2011.
