Woodard earns medalist honors at Women's Mid-Am San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Dawn Woodard managed a 1-over 73 in windy conditions on Sunday to earn medalist honors at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship. Woodard finished the two stroke-play rounds at 2-under-par 142. The South Carolina native bogeyed the 10th at Briggs Ranch Golf Club to start her round. She responded with birdies at 11 and 12, but faltered to a double- bogey on the 12th. Woodard parred her next five holes before stumbling to another bogey at the first. She got that shot back with a birdie on the fifth. Woodard traded a bogey for a birdie from the seventh before closing with a par. This is the third time Woodard has earned medalist honors at this championship. Ellen Port, a 4-time winner of this championship, and 2-time champion Carol Semple Thompson are the only competitors to earn medalist honors at least three times in this championship. Meghan Stasi, a 3-time winner of this championship, posted a 1-under 71 to finish second at plus-1. Her 71 was the only round in red figures for the day. Lucy Nunn and Debbie Adams tied for third at 2-over-par 146. Holly Bare was one shot back at plus-3. Martha Leach, the 2009 winner and last year's runner- up, shared sixth place with Mariko Makabe and Brooke Williams. Port, the defending champion, managed a 3-over 75, but that helped her climb into a share of 13th at 7-over 151. There will be an 8-for-5 playoff Monday morning for the final spots in match play. 10/07 21:00:13 ET |
