NCAA Game Summary - South Florida at Temple

(Saturday, October 6)

Final Score: Temple 37, South Florida 28

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Montel Harris rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns to guide the Temple Owls to a 37-28 conference win over the South Florida Bulls in Temple's first Big East Conference appearance since 2004.

This was Harris' best performance in a Temple uniform after transferring from Boston College this past season. While at Boston College, Harris became its all-time leading rusher with 3,735 yards.

Matt Brown rushed for 59 yards and Chris Coyer rushed for 54 yards while each had a rushing touchdown in the Owls' (2-2, 1-0 Big East) victory. Coyer was also 16-of-20 passing for 167 yards and a touchdown through the air. Cody Booth was on the receiving end of that touchdown pass.

B.J. Daniels was 18-of-31 for 219 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Bulls (2-3, 0-2 Big East). Demetric Murray, Lindsey Lamar, and Daniels each scored a rushing touchdown. Murray had 80 yards on 19 carries while Lamar had 57 yards on 10 carries. Lamar also had 33 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Temple struck first, as Coyer rushed for a 24-yard touchdown midway through the first quarter. The extra point by Brandon McManus was no good.

Daniels then found Lamar for a 24-yard touchdown pass and after a made PAT, the Bulls led 7-6.

McManus, who also missed a 22-yard field goal attempt, managed to redeem himself as he made a 50-yard field goal in the final seconds of the first half, putting the Owls back up, 9-7.

As the second half got going, Lamar ran in a 19-yard touchdown, which gave the Bulls the lead back, 14-9.

The sea-saw continued as Brown ran in a 15-yard touchdown and put the Owls up 16-14.

Temple extended its lead when Coyer connected with Booth for a nine-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter.

The Bulls responded with a nine-play, 75-yard drive that resulted in a four- yard touchdown run by Murray, cutting their deficit to just two points.

Montel Harries ran in a three-yard touchdown to finish an 11-play, 79- yard drive at 7:29 mark of the fourth quarter to give Temple a 30-21 lead.

USF answered back with a score when Daniels ran in a one-yard touchdown capping off a seven-play, 75-yard drive.

To put the game out of reach, Harris took in a 35-yard touchdown run following a missed field goal by the Bulls.
