USAFA, CO (Sports Network) - Asher Clark rushed for a career-high 169 yards and one TD, leading the Air Force Falcons to a 45-17 rout of the UNLV Rebels in Mountain West Conference action at Falcon Stadium.
Clark posted his career-high on just 15 carries for Air Force (6-5, 2-4 MWC), which kept its bowl hopes alive with just one game to play. The Falcons racked up 522 yards, including 394 yards rushing in the contest, as quarterback Tim Jefferson got in on the fun, with 81 yards on the ground and one TD. Mike DeWitt also scored once, while Wesley Cobb recorded two rushing scores as well.
UNLV (2-8, 1-4) tried to keep pace with 227 yards rushing, led by Tim Cornett's 104 yards. Bradley Randle added 82 yards and one TD for the Rebels, who managed just 268 total yards in the loss.
The Falcons got on the scoreboard first, as Cobb scored from two yards just over four minutes into the game, capping off a 10-play, 80-yard drive.
UNLV cut the lead to 7-3 with a 38-yard field goal by Nolan Kohorst five minutes later.
Cob extended Air Force's lead to 14-3 early in the second quarter with a seven-yard TD run.
Caleb Herring scored from one-yard out midway through the second quarter to make it 14-10 in favor of Air Force.
The Falcons would score 10 more points to take a 24-10 lead into intermission, with a 67-yard TD run by Asher, followed by a 27-yard field goal by Parker Herrington.
Air Force blew the game open after that, scoring three more TDs in the second half. starting with Jefferson's one-yard TD run four minutes into the third quarter. Jefferson then hit Don Strickland with a 25-yard TD pass at the 3:03 mark of the third quarter, followed by a two-yard TD run by DeWitt midway through the fourth quarter.
The Rebels finally got on the scoreboard in the second half, when Randle took it into the end zone from five yards out with just under four minutes to go in the game to provide the final score, giving the Falcons the 45-17 decision.
