Final Score: Arkansas State 45, Troy 14
Jonesboro, AR (Sports Network) - Ryan Aplin threw for 356 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Arkansas State Red Wolves to a 45-14 decision over the Troy Trojans in a Sun Belt Conference bout at ASU Stadium.
Dwayne Frampton hauled in one of those touchdown passes and finished with 153 yards on 10 receptions for ASU (10-2, 8-0 SunBelt), which clinched the conference title this past weekend.
Corey Robinson threw for 311 yards and two touchdowns in the loss for Troy (3-9, 2-6), but he also tossed two interceptions.
Bobby Zalud's 53-yard boot early in the opening frame gave the Red Wolves a 3-0 lead.
Less than two minutes later that lead ballooned to 10-0 after Darryl Feemster returned a fumble 60 yards for a touchdown.
Special teams and defensive play continued to rack up the points for ASU, as the Red Wolves extended their lead to 17-0 less than a minute into the second quarter when Don Jones returned a blocked punt 12 yards for a touchdown.
The Trojans finally got on the board late in the second stanza when Robinson hit Worthy Chandler with a 34-yard scoring strike.
However, the Red Wolves responded quickly as Aplin connected with Frampton with a 30-yard touchdown pass.
The Trojans would not go away though, as Robinson hit Payton Felton with a 15- yard touchdown pass in the final seconds of the second half, sending Troy into the break down only 24-14.
The lone score in the third quarter was a 10-yard touchdown pass from Aplin to Taylor Stockemer, extending ASU's lead to 31-14.
The Red Wolves continued to pull away in the final frame, as Derek Lawson's six-yard touchdown run and Aplin's nine-yard touchdown pass to Rod Hall gave Arkansas State the 31-point victory.
