NCAA Game Summary - Iowa State at Missouri

Columbia, MO (Sports Network) - The Cyclones' defense had no answer for James Franklin, as the dual threat quarterback accounted for five touchdowns to lead Missouri over Iowa State 52-17 in Big 12 action at Faurot Field.

Franklin completed 20-of-28 for 289 yards with three passing touchdowns and ran for 84 yards with two rushing touchdowns for Missouri (3-3, 1-2 Big 12) as it won its first conference game of the season. The Tigers' attack was unstoppable all day as it piled up 583 yards of total offense.

Henry Josey was also an effective weapon for the Tigers as he rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Michael Egnew led the team with six receptions for 105 yards and added a touchdown, while A.J. Klein led the defense with 12 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and an interception.

Iowa State (3-3, 0-3) now has lost three straight games. The Cyclones struggled to produce as their offense was held to 343 yards. James White was held to 61 yards on 14 carries. Steele Jantz led the team completing 17-of-32 passes for 161 yards.

Missouri set the tone in this one as they dominated the opening quarter. Franklin gave the Tigers their first points as he scored from one yard out on a quarterback keeper less than three minutes into the game to give the home team a 7-0 lead. At the 9:05 mark Josey had a one yard touchdown run of his own to push the Missouri lead 14-0.

Iowa State's lone first quarter score came courtesy of a 26-yard field goal by Zach Guyer to make the deficit 14-3 with 4:35 remaining in the frame. Missouri responded to the Cyclones' field goal with a 9-play 80-yard drive that concluded with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Franklin to Egnew to make it 21-3 going into the second quarter.

Kendial Lawrence added to the Missouri rout with 11:29 left in the second quarter as he rushed two yards for a score to extend the lead to 28-3.

Iowa State's defense gave the visitors some life when A.J. Klein intercepted a Franklin pass and returned it 78 yards for a score to make it 28-10 with just over ten minutes remaining in the half. Missouri's place kicker Grant Ressell ended the first half scoring with a 23-yard field goal as the clock expired to make the Tigers' lead 31-10.

Missouri accumulated 368 yards of total offense in the first half to Iowa State's 117.

The Tigers pulled away in the second half. Franklin threw his second touchdown pass of the day with 9:07 left in the third quarter when he completed a seven yard toss to T.J. Moe to make it 38-10. With five minutes left in the quarter, Franklin rushed one yard for his second touchdown on the ground to make Missouri's massive lead 45-10.

In the fourth quarter both teams found the end zone. In the first minute of the final frame Franklin threw another touchdown pass, this one was a six-yard toss to Wes Kemp. The Iowa State offense scored for the first time with 12:41 remaining when Jeff Woody rushed 13 yards for a touchdown for the final score of the afternoon to give Missouri a 52-17 lead.

Missouri's offense dominated on third downs converting on 9-of-14 attempts and also scored on all seven of its visits to the red zone.
