San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Lennon Creer ran for a career-high 252 yards and scored three times as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs held on to defeat the San Jose State Spartans, 45-38, in Western Athletic Conference action at Spartan Stadium.

Creer carried the ball 30 times for the Bulldogs (5-6, 4-3 WAC) as they kept hope alive for the postseason. Quarterback Ross Jenkins converted 13-of-29 for 105 yards, but he was sacked twice and tossed a couple of interceptions in the close call.

The Spartans (1-11, 0-7) were paced by Jordan La Secla who hit on 35-of-65 passes for 496 yards and five touchdowns, but he too was under pressure with three sacks and three picks on the night. Jalal Beauchman had game highs with nine catches for 178 yards and three touchdowns in the setback.

LaTech kicked off the night's scoring with a 40-yard TD run by Creer, capping a three-play, 52-yard drive in the first minute of the first quarter.

The Spartans responded less than a minute later when La Secla hit Jala Beauchman with a 67-yard TD toss to tie the score at 7-7.

Before the first quarter could end the Bulldogs put up another couple of TDs, the first coming on a one-yard run by Creer and the other a four-yard run by Ray Holley.

La Secla and the Spartans put together a lengthy 12-play, 80-yard drive that used up almost five and a half minutes, overlapping the first and second quarters and ending on a four-yard scoring strike to Ryan Otten to make the score 21-14 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Louisiana Tech responded with a 33-yard field goal by Matt Nelson and a four- yard TD run by Creer to boost the lead to 31-14.

With 48 seconds to play in the first half, La Secla found Beauchman for a 10- yard TD play to make the score 31-21 at the break.

SJSU took another small bite out of the deficit with a 34-yard field goal by Harrison Waid at the 12:26 mark of the third.

Later in the period LaTech returner Phillip Livas got loose for an 88-yard punt return for a touchdown to push the lead back up to two touchdowns at 38-24.

Refusing to give up hope, La Secla tossed touchdowns of 18 and three yards to Otten and Beauchman, respectively, in the fourth quarter, but in between Jenkins finished off a 12-play, 70-yard drive for the visitors with a six-yard TD run of his own to eventually give the Bulldogs a seven-point triumph.

LaTech outgained the Spartans on the ground by a 374-26 margin. The teams combined for just over 1,000 yards of total offense.
