NCAA Game Summary - S-M-U at Tulane

New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Kyle Padron threw for 354 yards and a touchdown and ran for one more to lead the SMU Mustangs to a 31-17 victory over the Tulane Green Wave in a Conference-USA bout at the Louisiana Superdome.

Padron completed 18-of-32 passes under center to pace the Mustangs (5-4, 4-1 C-USA) in the win, while Zach Line gained 177 yards and scored twice on the ground. Aldrick Robinson caught five passes for 182 and a touchdown for SMU, while Cole Beasley hauled in nine balls for 135 yards.

Orleans Darkwa gained 193 yards rushing on 29 carries to lead Tulane (3-5, 1-3) in the loss, while signal-caller Ryan Griffin threw for just 121 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Green Wave.

After a quiet opening period of play, the Green Wave began the scoring with a nine-yard completion from Griffin to Cody Sparks early in the second quarter.

The Mustangs responded minutes later with a 25-yard Matt Szymanski field goal.

Cairo Santos hit from 25 yards out midway through the third quarter to give the Green Wave a 10-3 lead, while a 23-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Austin Jacks late in the frame extended the advantage to 17-3.

Line found the end zone following a five-yard run just minutes later to pull the Mustangs within 17-10.

Line then tied the contest for the Mustangs early in the final period of play after a seven-yard scamper, while an 82-yard toss from Padron to Robinson midway through the stanza gave the Mustangs a 24-17 lead.

Pardon then put the Mustangs ahead 31-17 with under two minutes remaining in the contest on a three-yard quarterback sneak to seal the victory for SMU.
