(Saturday, September 11th) Final Score: Louisiana 31, Arkansas State 24 Lafayette, LA (Sports Network) - Chris Masson threw for 142 yards and a touchdown to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns to a 31-24 victory over the Arkansas State Red Wolves in a Sun Belt Conference showdown at Cajun Field. Masson added 53 yards and a score on the ground in the win for Louisiana (1-1. 1-0 SBC), while Kevis Streeter ran for 71 yards and a score as well. Ladarius Green caught seven passes for 97 yards and a touchdown, while Andrew Joseph caught two balls for 70 yards and a score as well for the Ragin' Cajuns in the conference opener. Ryan Aplin completed 25-of-45 passes for 438 yards and two touchdowns to pace Arkansas State (0-2, 0-1) in the losing effort, while Allen Muse grabbed five passes for 133 yards. A 69-yard run by Streeter gave the Ragin' Cajuns a 7-0 lead early in the opening period of play. A 27-yard Tyler Albrecht field goal late in the frame gave the Cajuns a 10-0 advantage. The Red Wolves responded less than a minute later with a 65-yard completion between Aplin and Taylor Stockemer to pull ASU to within three. The Cajuns took a 17-7 lead midway through the second quarter with a six-yard scoring strike from Masson to Green. A 47-yard toss from Javone Lawson to Joseph late in the frame extended the Cajun lead to 24-7. The Red Wolves converted a 39-yard Bobby Zalud field goal early in the fourth quarter, and pulled to within 31-17 midway through the frame with a five-yard touchdown run by Aplin. Aplin pulled his squad to within a touchdown with just over three minutes remaining in the contest with an 11-yard completion to Anthony Robinson, but the rally stopped there and the Cajuns escaped with the seven-point win. 09/11 20:29:31 ET |
