NCAA Game Summary - Akron at Kent State

Final Score: Kent State 28, Akron 17

Kent, OH (Sports Network) - Spencer Keith threw for 186 yards and one touchdowns to lead the Kent State Golden Flashes to a 28-17 victory over the Akron Zips in Mid-American Conference play at Dix Stadium.

Sam Kirkland hauled in five passes for 109 yards for KSU (2-3, 1-1 MAC), while Jacquise Terry led the ground attack with 69 yards and one score.

Alex Allen rushed for 51 yards and one score for Akron (0-6, 0-2), which is winless on the season. Patrick Nicely had a terrible outing, as the signal caller was sacked seven time, and also tossed three interceptions. Nicely completed just 16-of-33 passes for 133 yards in the setback.

Akron zipped to an early 7-0 advantage thanks to Allen's two-yard touchdown run.

Kent State's defense evened the score later in the frame when Luke Wollet returned an interception 12 yards for a touchdown.

The Golden Flashes jumped ahead 14-7 when Keith connected with Tyshon Goode for an eight-yard touchdown midway through the second stanza.

Kent State pushed its lead to 21-7 when Terry's six-yard touchdown run late in the first half capped off a 12-play, 90-yard drive for the Golden Flashes.

Akron was able to head into intermission down just 21-10, as Igor Iveljic connected on a 41-yard kick in the final seconds of the second quarter.

The Zips continued to cut into their deficit, as Jeremy LaFrance scored on a 10-yard run late in the third quarter.

However, the Golden Flashes were able to extend their lead to 28-17 late in the final frame when Luke Batton recovered a fumble in the end zone.

Kent State's defense forced five turnovers in the contest and held Akron to just 195 total yards.
