NCAA Game Summary - Texas Tech at Iowa State

Ames, IA (Sports Network) - Austen Arnaud threw for 190 yards and a career- high four touchdowns as the Iowa State Cyclones scored 28 fourth-quarter points to outlast the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 52-38, in a Big 12 shootout at Trice Stadium.

Arnaud was 20-of-28 for the Cyclones (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) without an interception. Collin Franklin caught six balls for 68 yards and a touchdown, while Darius Reynolds hauled in three passes for 51 yards and a score. Alexander Robinson ran for 103 yards on 12 carries and scored a touchdown.

Taylor Potts was 42-of-62 through the air for the Red Raiders (2-2, 0-2) for 377 yards and five touchdowns. He was intercepted once. Lyle Leong caught nine passes for 125 yards and three scores.

The Cyclones started the scoring when Grant Mahoney booted a 35-yard field goal in the opening minute of the second quarter.

Iowa State extended its lead to 10-0 when Arnaud hit Reynolds with a 36-yard touchdown pass three minutes later.

It became a 17-0 game when Arnaud hit Josh Lenz with a 14-0 touchdown strike with just over six minutes left until halftime.

Alexander Robinson's one-yard run gave Iowa State a 24-0 with three minutes left in the opening half.

Texas Tech got on the board with 45 seconds left in the second quarter when Eric Stephens caught a 10-yard toss from Potts. Stephens was hit and fumbled after he made the catch but recovered the fumble in the end zone for the score.

The Red Raiders struck again with nine seconds left in the half after Iowa State botched a snap on a punt. Potts hit Lyle Leong on a 20-yard touchdown pass, cutting the team's deficit to 24-14.

Texas Tech drew closer when Matt Williams kicked a 24-yard field goal four- and-a-half minutes into the third quarter, making the score 24-17.

The Red Raiders tied the game when Potts found Leong on a 24-yard throw five minutes later.

The Cyclones moved back in front when Arnaud hit Franklin with a 27-yard scoring pass in the first minute of the fourth quarter and extended the lead to 38-24 on Shontelle Johnson's 61-yard run a minute later, a score that was set up when Texas Tech fumbled a punt return.

Potts hit Stephens with a 10-yard throw with 10 minutes left in the game to bring Texas Tech within one touchdown, but Arnaud found Kurt Hammerschmidt on a four-yard route with less than four minutes left in the game to extend Iowa State's lead to 45-31.

Potts responded for Texas Tech by hitting Leong on a 26-yard scoring pass with a minute-and-a-half left in regulation.

The Red Raiders tried an onside kick but Jeremy Reeves returned it 42 yards for a touchdown with a little over a minute to play in the game.

The 52 points from Iowa State is the most points the Cyclones have ever scored against a Big 12 opponent. Iowa State scored 55 points against Kansas State in 1972 as a member of the Big Eight.

The Cyclones piled up 441 yards in total offense, while Texas Tech generated 508 yards of offense in defeat.
