NCAA Game Summary - South Florida at Connecticut



(Saturday, December 5th)

Final Score: Connecticut 29, South Florida 27

East Hartford, CT (Sports Network) - Dave Teggart connected on a 42-yard field goal as time expired in regulation, giving the Connecticut Huskies a thrilling, 29-27 victory over the South Florida Bulls in a Big East Conference battle at Rentschler Field.

Zach Frazer threw for 225 yards and two scores for UConn (7-5, 3-4 BigEast), while Andre Dixon rushed for 50 yards and two touchdowns.

B.J. Daniels only threw for 160 yards for South Florida (7-5, 3-4), but the quarterback did rush for a team-high 88 yards and scored three times on the ground.

Dixon opened the scoring in the matchup with a 12-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. However, the two-point conversion failed, leaving the Huskies with a 6-0 lead.

With just over two minutes remaining in the second quarter the Bulls took a 7-6 lead when Mike Ford scored on a 14-yard run.

However, the Huskies answered back in the final seconds of the first half when Frazer connected with Marcus Easley for a 21-yard touchdown pass.

The Huskies went ahead 20-7 midway through the third frame when Frazer hit Isiah Moore with a five-yard touchdown pass.

The Bulls responded however, as Daniels rumbled into the end zone on a two- yard run.

The Bulls took the lead midway through the fourth quarter when Daniels broke free and scored on a 27-yard run.

Connecticut regained the lead with just over four minutes remaining in regulation when Dixon scored on a one-yard run. The Huskies could not convert the two-point conversion, leaving UConn with a 26-21 edge.

Daniels added his third rushing touchdown of the game in the final minute of regulation, as the quarterback scored on an eight-yard run. However, the team was unable to add the two-point conversion, leaving the Bulls with a one-point lead.

The Huskies did not give up though, as the team marched down field in the final seconds of the matchup, setting up Teggart for the game-winning kick.
