Final Score: Texas A&M 56, UAB 19
College Station, TX (Sports Network) - Jerrod Johnson threw for three touchdowns and ran for three more, as the Texas A&M Aggies rolled past the UAB Blazers, 56-19, in a non-conference clash at Kyle Field in College Station.
Johnson hit on 23-of-29 pass attempts for 290 yards and also toted 14 times for 61 yards, as Texas A&M (3-0) improved to 3-0 for the third time in four years. Cyrus Gray paced the ground game with 99 yards and a score on 19 carries, while Ryan Tannehill hauled in three balls for 101 yards and a touchdown.
For UAB (1-3), Joe Webb threw for 60 yards on 8-of-18 tosses, while rushing for 65 yards and a score on 11 carries. David Isabelle also saw time at quarterback and did damage with his legs, rushing for a team-high 93 yards and a touchdown on just four attempts. The Blazers have now dropped three straight following a season opening win over Rice.
The Blazers started the scoring with a 37-yard field goal by Josh Zahn just over two minutes into the game.
Texas A&M put its first points on the board late in the first quarter when Johnson plunged one yard for a score.
Zahn connected from 41 yards out early in the second quarter to keep UAB close.
The Aggies, however, would score 21-unanswered points to take a 28-6 lead to the break. Johnson first threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Don Bishop before scoring on runs of 18 and six yards.
The Blazers came out quickly in the second half, as Webb scurried 10 yards to paydirt. The two-point try was no good, leaving UAB behind 28-12.
Texas A&M though, responded with four straight touchdowns to put the game away. Johnson first connected with Ryan Swope from six yards out prior to Bradley Stephens rushing 16 yards for a touchdown. Tannehill then caught a 16- yard touchdown pass from Johnson early in the fourth quarter and Gray put the finishing touches on the victory with a 40-yard dash to the endzone.
Isabelle had a 60-yard touchdown run for UAB midway through the final quarter, but the game was well out of reach.
The Aggies, who came into the game leading the nation in total offense with 589.5 ypg, gained 544 yards in the win.
