Final Score: Hawaii 24, Navy 17
Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Bryant Moniz threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns as he and the Hawaii Warriors defeated the Navy Midshipmen, 24-17, in non-conference action at Aloha Stadium.
Moniz converted 32-of-44 passes for the Warriors (6-6) as they remained in the hunt for a postseason invitation. Greg Salas collected 10 passes for 147 yards and Kealoha Pilares eight balls for 102 yards and a pair of scores as well.
The Midshipmen were paced by Ricky Dobbs who gained a game-high 127 yards and scored once on 25 rushing attempts. Dobbs also converted 5-of-9 passes for 88 yards in the setback.
Pilares began the game's scoring late in the first quarter when he caught a 24-yard TD pass from Moniz to make the score 7-0.
However, the ensuing possession by Navy covered 63 yards on only three plays as Dobbs raced 53 yards to the end zone to lock the score at 7-7 at the end of the first period of play.
Hawaii kicker Scott Enos put his team back out in front in the second when he booted a 34-yard field goal, but Navy responded with a 28-yard field goal by Joe Buckley. With 1:07 remaining in the first half Vince Murray put the Midshipmen up by a score of 17-10 on the strength of his 18-yard TD run.
With six seconds to play in the opening half Pilares and Moniz hooked up once more on a seven-yard scoring strike to knot the score at 17-17 heading into the break.
The only points of the second half came courtesy of a 14-yard TD pass from Moniz to Alex Green late in the third.
Desperate down the stretch, Dobbs tried to pass the ball down the field for Navy, but he was taken down for a sack on the final play of the game.
Hawaii, one of the weakest running teams in the nation again this season, logged just 62 yards on the ground, but overall the Warriors still gained more total yards than the visitors (428 to 336).
