West Lafayette, IN (Sports Network) - Me'co Brown ran for 150 yards and a touchdown, as the Northern Illinois Huskies posted a 28-21 win at Purdue.
The win snapped NIU's 19-game losing streak to Big Ten opponents, which dated back to 1988. Huskies (2-1) quarterback Chandler Harnish was 15-of-26 for 174 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Joey Elliott paced Purdue (1-2) with 188 passing yards, in addition to 68 yards and two scores on the ground.
Purdue return man Aaron Valentin got the scoring started with a 62-yard punt return midway through the first quarter.
But the Huskies took control in the second quarter. Chad Spann capped a 14- play, 62-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run to tie the score at 7-7 with 13 minutes remaining until halftime.
Five minutes later, Brown broke loose for a 67-yard touchdown run to put NIU on top.
With less than a minute to play in the first half, the Huskies extended their lead to 21-7 on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Harnish to Reed Cunningham.
Spann added an 11-yard touchdown scamper late in the third quarter to open up a 28-7 lead for the Huskies.
The Boilermakers made things interesting in the latter stages of the game. Elliott burst free for a 58-yard touchdown run at the 2:24 mark of the third quarter.
With 5:42 remaining in the fourth quarter, Elliott cut the deficit to 28-21 on a six-yard touchdown run. But the NIU offense were able to milk most of the clock and hold on for the win.
