Alouettes give GM Popp three-year extension

Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Montreal Alouettes have signed general manager and director of football operations Jim Popp to a three-year contract extension.

Popp's current deal was set to expire after the 2014 campaign.

Now in his 19th season with Montreal, Popp has built a trio of Grey Cup championship teams. The Alouettes first won the title under his stewardship in 2002, then captured back-to-back crowns in 2009-10. Montreal also reached the title game five other times since 2000.

The Alouettes are 1-1 early in the 2014 season and have compiled a record of 206-119-1 under Popp since relocating to Montreal in 1996.

Popp has been with the franchise since it was known as the Baltimore Stallions in 1994. The 1995 Stallions are the only American team to win the Grey Cup.
